View Full Version : Thermal Underwear for Duty
I work midnights and the cold is slowly getting to me. I hate wearing a jacket because I always wear my vest and prefer to wear thermals.
Under Armour is too expensive. I hear that polyproplyene thermals are really good. I also hear polar-tec silk thermals are good as well. Do any of you have any recommendations? Any info regarding comfort and warmth is appreciated.

MrCool,
I wear the polyproplyene bottoms for the lower body, and I went to Wal Mart and purchased some long sleeve trutle neck shirts. They are a little heavier than a regular shirt and except for the coldest nights, I stay warm. I have some of the under armor stuff, but to me other than not being as bulky, it is an even trade off, except for the cost of replacing the items due to normal wear and tear. I hate to wear my jacket as well and have found that that works best well for me. I have seen some colored "long johns" or long underwear in Wal-Mart as well, but I prefer the poly pros and the long sleeve shirts. I do not get too hot in them while in a building and they keep me warm while outside. You might consider also if you ever have to chase someone and work up a sweat, the under armor is supposed to wick away the sweat from your body, to help protect you from hypothermia.
Just my .02 cents worth, I am sure that there are a million different things that folks here on the board can suggest. Hope that this helped.

Mr Cool:
I've tried the Under Armour, there not too bad, but they are pricey. If you have an Eastern Mountain Sports(not sure if anyone else has it) around you, they have something called Berglene (or Bergelene, I forget which) that I switched to. It comes in a couple of different weights, its comfy, and when I got it the prices were reasonable (not usual for EMS) it just feels better than the compression UA stuff.
Hope this helps.
