I'm curious if anyone out there has ever been involved in a officer/firefighter, etc... related shooting or injury before that has required (or should have required) activation of a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team? And if so, did your agency actually have one in place? Or if the police/fire agency activated the Team were you invited to attend or were you forgotten? Again I've spoken with people who were never invited, or even worse, don't even have a program in place for such an event.

I thankfully have only come close...
Nothing that has been very serious after we find out all the details, but you know when the person on the other end of the phone is screaming..."this cop just got t-boned in the intersection and his car flipped..." your mind gets the worse picture, (thankfully he just had a couple scrapes).
We do however have a Critical Incident Response Team (that's not the real name, I can't remember for the life of me right now what it is really called.) And It has people from every unit in it from Detectives/Command Staff/Communications etc. anyone that might have something bad happen. Very helpful, and we USUALLY(and usually being the key word) are included in incident debreifing, for the high stress calls. When we had one of our officers killed in a traffic accident not to long ago, everyone went to the precinct, and talked about it/about him/about the situation. I had nothing to do with it, but still went and provided my support.
Excellent program, and for any department, that might think the dispatchers and call receviers don't need to be/or shouldn't be included in these types of incidents debreifing etc, your gonna wanna rethink that! We are very much a part of the situation as the cops out on the street, and we still need to keep out composure over the radio, and on the next phone call we take.
I am not a dispatcher but when a fellow officer that works my shift got shot in July my department didn't have a CISD team or anything. The only thing they said is if you want to talk to somebody they would pay for it. I said thanks I will use my own people.
