Is the CHP raising the age limit?

Hello everyone! Can someone confirm whether the CHP is going to raise the age limit from 31 to 35? My brother in-law (whom is in the CHP) said he heard something about it, but doesn't know for sure. Hopefully someone can answer this question. Thank you!

Apparently there is a bill before the CA govt to have the age limit raised. I have not heard of its progress. I believe the present age restriction is ridiculous (not to mention illegal, given federal anti-age discrimination laws). You can't tell me a 32 year old ex marine with a masters degree cannot perform the job of a highway patrolman. Given that the CHP are very big on recruiting ex-military types, it would be in their best interests to raise it.

The CHP agrees with you. A 32 year old ex-marine isn’t too old. They subtract the years that you were in the service form your age.

Hello to all! I am in the CHP academy right now (2nd Week). One of our instructors told us yesterday that ther bill has passed and starting on Jan. 1, 2002 the age limit will be 35. Hope that helps!

Hello USMCCAPT!!! That's great news!!!!!!!!! I'm 30 right now- so that means I'll have almost five years more to apply, and not two years!!!!!!!!!!! I can get alot more good stuff done in that time- like more education, and I start a POST academy today too. It'll take me a year and a half to become POST certified. That'll look a heck of alot better in the QAP!! I know I still have to attend Sac for the CHP's academy. Thanks for relaying that- that is definately great news!!!!! Good luck in the academy. I'm sure you will be a fine CHP!!!!!!!!!!!!
