Does anyone know if the Sig 229R fits in the Sig 229 size Safariland 6004 thigh holster? I found one site that seems to indicate one holster size for both guns, but I want to be sure before I buy - can't find a site that specifically states the holster is for the 229R.

I can't speak for the 229, but the 226R seems to fit a little tighter in the 6280 than the non-rail version.
Safariland customer service said that the Sig P229R will fit in the same holster as the one for the 229 without rails.

Thanks UC!
However, I just saw that the bob hammer (P229R DAK) requires a different holster from the regular P229R. It should have a 174 in the model number. If the holster is for the regular P229R, then it would have just 74 in the model number.
Unless things have changed (which is possible), there is not a separate 6004 holster for the 228 and one for the 229. In the past, agents were issued 228's and the 228's fit very well inside the 228/229 6004. Newer agents (or agents that abused their 228's or shot them past their serviceable life) were given 229's as replacements. The 229 DOES NOT fit very well inside a 228/229 6004. The 229 as many know is slightly wider at the slide then the 228 (lower receivers are identical with respect to dimensions) and as such precludes the 229 from properly fitting in the 6004, even with the tension screw loosened. In fact, even after removing the tension screw completely on mine, the pistol still doesn't fit properly, but much better then it did previously. The sticking point on the 229 seems to be the wider dimensions of the slide from what I can see and as such the rail on a 229R probably wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps Safariland has ameliorated this problem regarding the lack of interchangeability between the 228 and 229 in their 6004 holster.
