So today I was working phones, and got a 911 call from a guy who wanted to report a loud party down the street from his house. I went throught the normal steps, asking him what was going on and the location. He told me his address, which didn't make sense to our addressing system, so I asked him what city he was in. He said Signal Hill, which I have never heard of up here. I asked him what major landmark/roadway he was by, and he told me just off orange street from I-405. Well we don't have an orange street off of I-405, then I asked him what city he was next too. Now he was starting to get angry, but he told me Long Beach... wait Long Beach as in Califorina, he said yeah, why who did I get. Well your cell phone hit a cell site in WA, near Seattle. After laughing for about 5 mins, he tried again.
Anyone else have something like this happen to them??? I've had cell phones from the other side of the state, but never out of state. This was really strange.

I'm located about 45 minutes west of Chicago in the burbs. I got a cellular call once. Did the same thing you did with the quetions: location-Didn't match anything in our CAD.
What town are you in?
Gary.
As in Indiana?
Yes!
That's a quite far away from the western suburbs of Chicago. So I had to look up the number and transfer him. (We are not allowed to have a caller hang up to make the call again) Interesting to say the least. :)

We frequently get calls of people wanting to report things in Lagrange, Illinois instead of Lagrange, Indiana. Apparently when they call the operator on their cell phone and tell the operator they need the Lagrange Police, they send them to us. I don' t know how big Lagrange, Illinois is but I'm for as many calls as we get, I could probably dispatch for them.
We have got cell calls from Missouri, In,Ill and Tn go figurebut there is an area of town where if you call 911 here you will get clarksville Tn or Nashville. But I love the new system so we can now call those little pranksters back who play on 911 with their cell. I love calling them back when their cell number pops up on the screen and you call saying "This is 911, was there an Emergency or is it that you just need to lock your keypad?" lol it kills me to hear them studder

I work in Southampton, Massachusetts.and we get calls daily from Southampton, New York. We come first alphabetically so I assume when people call information the operators just see our number first and give it. Kelly
Hello! I have my attention when it comes to the use of cell phones. I work and live in the Jefferson City, MO...we are in the middle of the state. I've personally received 9-1-1 requests from as far as 200 miles away. I was visiting with a college in Kansas City once, telling them about this mess with cell phone calls, and she related that one of her PSAP's in Kansas City, MO received a 9-1-1 cell phone call from someone in Salt Lake, Utah. Now, you must verify the street, the city and the state where the call is coming from. One day...hopefully during my lifetime...the Phase I and Phase II technology will arrive....who will pay for it...that's another question, because phone companies are all over making money....not saving lives.......it make my blood boil to think about it. Hang in there.....:)

I've never received a cell phone call like this, but I have had it happen to me when I MADE a 9-1-1 call once. I was on Nicholasville Rd in Lexington (one of the most dangerous roads statistically in the state) when I came upon a terrible accident that left a car upside down in the middle of rush hour traffic.
I pull upon it approximately 30 seconds after it had occurred, and being an EMT I grab my EMS bag out of the trunk and head towards the overturned car, while dialing 9-1-1 on my cell at the same time to tell them how many patients, condition, how many units are needed, etc at the scene. When I begin telling the calltaker where I was at, he goes "What are you talking about?" and I said, "Nicholasville Rd at Southland Dr", and he goes "Are you sure" and I say "dammit, I know where the hell I'm at, quit screwing around and get someone out here!" This is the point he says "what city are you in?" and I say "Lexington"...he then goes "Sir, I don't know how this happened, but you're talking to Louisville 9-1-1" I then caught myself saying "what the hell are you talking about" before he advised me to hang up and try it again.
For those of you who don't know, Louisville is about 85 miles west of Lexington, and the two cities hate each other (mostly because of college basketball). I just thought that was really messed up and could've been prevented by cell phone companies.
