Would like to hear some comments about the Advanced Taser M26 (The one that sorta resembles a glock) from owners and people that have tested them. Anybody use The M26 in a real life situation, and if, how did it perform? Has the technology improved so much now that every police officer is obligated to use it in certain situitions?

DRM, just happens that I am an instructor with the Advanced M-26 TASER and have deployed it numerous times on suspects.

In 2000, my department (mid-sized southeast Texas agency) sent myself and another sergeant to Austin for M-26 instructor training. My department later bought three Tasers which are assigned to our tactical unit.

Regarding the effects of the Taser, it flat out kicks butt! I've used it on suspects high on cocaine, several mentally disturbed folks and numerous police officers (volunteers during a basic s.w.a.t. school). The one thing they all had in common was they ALL went to the ground immediately but were not hurt one bit after it was all said and done.

I have also had the pleasure, if you will, of sampling the 50,000 volts of juice that the Taser provides. During a recent "contest" in Austin, my entry team took the "juice" for 3.4 seconds, winning three more Tasers for our department.

Long story short, if you get the opportunity to look at their website www.airtaser.com , the videos don't lie! Good luck to you.

I've been to the M26 instructor certification also! If you've been on this site awhile, I posted something on it about 17 months ago. I have both been shot with and deployed it in line of duty incidents. A great piece of equipment that's worth every cent and one which both reduces department liability and keeps the officer from having the reactionary gap penetrated! Would love to receive one for Christmas!

P.S. Was shot on TV and made the news 4 times in less than 24 hours. Publicity had actually diffused situations when I later showed up on the scene with Ole Yellow!

Have a great day!

Roscoe, glad to hear you've met Ol' Sparky! I've been following the forums for about six months, I missed your original post on the Taser.

I was lucky enough to be sent to the training specifically to integrate the tool into our department. We have been using them for over a year now but still only have three folks certified to use them. This coming Friday 8-12, we are training our entire tactical unit in the use of the Taser. The six Tasers we have will then be distributed across our three patrol shifts so they can stop calling me out in the middle of the night to deal with the crazies! We have diffused numerous combative subjects and ended several S.W.A.T. standoffs with this tool.

We are now using nickel metal hydride batteries in the Tasers. They can be charged up to 1000 times and have a greater ouput of "juice" that can be easily seen when you test fire the unit. The batteries are a little more high maintenance than alkalyne but worth the step.

Hey, regarding getting hit with the Taser, as I posted in my previous thread, there was a "Taser challenge" recently at a tactical competition in Austin. Your five man team would line up side by side and one of the Taser leads (cartridge already deployed) would be taped to a guy's hip on one end, and the other lead would be taped to the other end guy's hip. Everyone would lock arms and the Taser operator would let it rip! A stopwatch would be started and the first knee to hit the ground would stop the time. Well me and my big head fell directly into my Sergeant's head, giving him eleven stitches and a nice little scar! This was all video taped by local media, including the History Channel witch was doing a documetary on the history of S.W.A.T. teams. Needless to say we were popular, as you were also, on the news that night. Oh, the prize was three new Tasers! Thanks for the reply.
