I am currently a Senior in a four year University in New York. If congress declares war and our troops start going over to fight I want to do my part. Can anybody tell me about the USMC Officer Candidate Class? I understand that after a 10 week training program you can go in as a Liuetenant. Am I eligible for this even though I don't have my four year degree yet? Also is the 10 week training program after basic, or in lue of basic? Will I have the option of chosing where I would like to serve being that I would prefer to go into the Military Police. Any help would be great. Thank you and god bless america!

Hey Sween,

I am currently waiting for the word from the Marine Selection Board. If all goes well I'll be part of the next class. Anyhow you will need to finish that degree before your given any type of admission to OCC. You will find the web site very useful in answering most of your questions. Just stay in shape and try to give your recruiter a hundred percent from now on. Next week I plan to run another PT to beat my old scores to keep me competitive, any bit helps . PM if you have more questions.

Your first step should be to contact your local OSO (Officer Selection Officer). They are basically recruiters for officers and there should be a regional OSO in your neck of the woods. Start the application process and you may be ready to attend OCC by the time you graduate. Understand, however, that competition for OCC is tough and the application process may take awhile. Ensure you are in good shape, have decent grades, etc... OCC is ten weeks and upon completion you are commissioned as a 2nd Lt. Immediately following OCC you will go to The Basic School (TBS) which is also in Quantico and lasts 6 months. You will have some control over your MOS (MP, infantry, arty etc..) choice at TBS. Theoretically, the better you do at TBS the greater your chances are at choosing your MOS (MOS selection is a whole other topic). After graduation from TBS you are assinged to your first command. This is a rather broad overview. Hope it helps, any other questions let me know.
