Sept. 11th has to be the one of the saddest days in emergency service history. Hundreds of our finest gave their lives to a senseless act that will forever haunt us. When it first happened like everyone, I was in shock.
Shortly after the news began to spread around the world. Cuba offered medical assistance. Iran gave condolences and began to seal off the Afghan border to help us. The European community had a moment of silence. Following, several countries began to immobilize troops. Help began pouring in from millions of people from around the world. Pakistan has now agreed to help us in any way possible.
In New York and D.C. rescuers came from around the world working together. People from all over the US began to give blood. Air traffic came to a halt, yet nobody complained.
Crime in Los Angeles last week dropped 50%. Yes, 50%.
Military recruiters so at least a 25% increase in the number of young men and women signing up. United States flags can now be see flying on just about every city block. Patriotism and pride in America is at an all time high. We are not going to back down.
It the face of war, as the world comes together, we are probably closer now to world peace than we have ever been before.
Yes, my initial reaction is that they died for a very senseless act and the terrorist were probably beyond themselves in pride for what they have done. Now I'm starting to wonder. There might be a 247 firefighters and dozens of police officers smiling down upon us in pride as they died doing the job they loved. There is not a more noble way to give your life.
The reaction the terrorists now have is probably the opposite of what they wanted. Now they have to deal with an entire world that's very pissed off. Mr. Bin Laden, you don't know what you've done...but you're about to find out.
