Hey Devil Dog,

I think you're going to need a recruiter to answer that question. It depends on a lot of factors - mainly your reenlistment code and type of discharge, bt also the needs of the Corps. at this time, etc.

You may want to contact a recruiter in person, however, there's also a Marine message board at Military.com which seems to be frequented by more than a few Marine Corps. recruiters.

Current base pay for an E4 is $1576.20 monthly for 4 years in service. Of course where you live will determine if you are getting COLA and how much you will get for food. The problem is, I am pretty sure that once you have been out for as long as you have, they will not give you your previous rank back. Probably have to go in as an E3. I know guys who transferred services after a little more than 90 days out and lost a rank.

It's normally a case where you may lose one grade. On the other hand you 've gotten your college degree and the probability is that you'll probably get E-4 if you went back into the military. I'm sure you could find specific information on pay and allowances by either visiting a recruiter of searching the archives of the Army/Navy/Air Force times etc.. You'll most likely be eligible for post housing but probably have to live on the waiting lists! You're probably looking at something in the neighborhood of around $400 per month housing allowance and $275 for rations. Remember, housing and rations allowances are not taxible. COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) isn't going to be important or of significance unless you're in a high cost area.

Have a great day!

Hello,

I have known many who have changed their minds. I am pretty shure that if you have a break of greater than 12 months you have to give up a stripe.

Take care,
John

How's everything at the new dept?

What you will have to do is go see a prior service recruiter and he will start a packege on you to send up to CMC. You will have a choice on what MOS you would like to get into but it's never a sure thing. As for the pay/grade I was told I would have to go in as an E-4 ( got out as an E-5) but would pick up my E-5 within six months. I had someone from my old unit ( 2ndSOTG) asking for me so getting what I wanted would not have been a problem. To get some idea of pay go to the Marine Corp web page and check out the pay chart.

Keep in mind that htis was the Army and not the Marines, and this was also in 1994. I went back into active duty and was able to keep my rank, except for losing my CPL stripes, but still stayed as an E-4. Within 6 months I was a Sgt. What helped me was the I was in the Nat. Guard. I also told the recruiter that I wanted to go back in but could not afford to if I lost any rank. I did not have my choice of job, nor did I have a choice of duty stations, I basically went back in under "Needs of the Army". I do know that several friendds that were prior service had lost a rank when they came back in.

Things could have changed, in fact knowing the military they have probably changed several times, haha.

Hope this helps some, good luck!!!!!!
