I've read posts in a couple of previous forums about the advantages of velcro style duty belts. A couple of comments were that you don't have to wear keepers.

Just as a caution, there was a Kalamazoo Officer years ago that was in a struggle and had his velcro duty belt ripped off of him. So it's probably not a bad idea just to have one or two keepers. Maybe this is just police folklore, but I thought I share it anyway.

Has anybody else ever heard of this?

I would personally prefer Velcro as it seems that it would stay on your waist more secure and wouldn't slide.

As with anything, it is only as good as the buckle. I like the Uncle Mikes Pro 3 system. It requires you depressing 3 different portions of the buckle, simultaniously, to release the belt. The velcro simply holds the belt and your equipment in place, to keep it from sliding around.
