You wouldn't happen to work for the Slidell PD would you? I lived there for 5 years in the late 80's. My last Dept., the Simpsonville Police Dept.,(in the Upstate of SC) starts at $24,700. Simpsonville PD is attempting to implement take home cars for all Officers. (As an SRO I had one.)
My new employeer, the Pickens County Sheriff's Office, starts at $25,200 plus a take home car. There is no state supplement in SC and $20,000 is about average for starting salaries state wide. As you can see we are a little behind in the salary area. Stay Safe.

Start out at about 33,4 k a year and can max out at 48k in 8 years if you are a motivated individual. We get rated on performance every year and get a raise acording to how we did that year.

January of next year our starting pay goes up to $39,900. Max pay will be a little over 55k after 5 years. Probably about average for the area, which isn't to bad. I just wish we had the off duty like our counterparts in Denver. There are a ton of those guys pulling down $70,000 to 80,000 a year with off duty jobs.

The town that I live in outside of Albany New York pays really well.
Starts around $45,000 and tops out at $61,000 for a patrol officer after 5 years. This is before OT and I live upstate so the cost of living is not bad at all compared to Long Isalnd or Westchester.
We start out at 36,2k and top off at 51,2k after 5 years. We should be getting a 7.2% raise in Jan 02 which will be very nice.
Bigz- Those DPD guys are getting hooked up. I can't imagine getting paid to watch a sporting event and getting to play with the drunks.
CopDog,
I'm really happy where I'm at, but I have a friend who works for Denver trying to talk me into lateraling next year. I'll probably stay put, but the cash is intriguing. His dad who has been with them for over 30 years pulled in over 100k with off duty and overtime last year. I could definitely get used to that kind of cash.

START, $31 K TOP AFTER 5 YRS, $52 K -- DON'T BELIEVE THE ADS.
OVERTIME THOUGH CAN GO FROM 0 TO MORE THAN $50,000.
EXAMPLE; I AM AT $80,000 RIGHT NOW ---- UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE BUSTED MY ASS AND PROBABLY HAD 2 DAYS OFF THE ENTIRE YEAR TO GET THIS HIGH.----WE'LL SEE WHAT GUILIANI DOES FOR US NOW, HE STILL WANTS US TO TAKE HIS 3% A YEAR OFFER, WITH NO RETRO PAY, AND NO MAKE UP FOR THE 2 YRS OF 0% HE GAVE US LAST CONTRACT.

Starting pay; 35,256K no experience
38,459K with 5 years prior exp.
51,396K after 10 years
Take home vehicle program after completing probation. Good off duty job opportunities.
Albuquerque starts at about $14.50/hr. I don't know what the cap is but Iknow several officers who pull in about $21/hr and they've been on for about 8 years. Our "Chief's Overtime" program is a deal where city businesses contract with the govt to provide off duty officers as security, events control, traffic direction, etc. The entity pays the city $29/hr and the the city keeps $4 of that... we make $25/hr. You can do up to 20hrs/week of COT. It's not too hard to rack up the $$$ doing it. Add your COT to your regular overtime and it really goes up. The highest paid cop on our dept last year was a DWI guy (that's all they do) who made $98K with his overtime. Granted, all of his overtime was made sitting in court.

The Sheriff's department I was just hired by starts out 1st year at approx $28,000, 2nd year at $32,000, 3rd year at $37,000, and 4th year at $48,000. it is actually broken down hourly but is calcualated like this on a 40 hr work week. Overtime and holiday pay is a nice addition to the progressive pay scale.

My dispatch center starts at $30,528 and tops out at $44,174.
Supervisors start at 35,678 and top out at $51,628.
Each year we will get a 3.5% cost of living increase so our pay scale will adjust accordingly.
Our Director and Dep Director make much more of course....
I believe our starting pay is somewhere around 28,000 to 30,000. We just settled our contract so I don't know the exact numbers. We top out at 43,500 after 3.5 years

In Winnipeg (winterpeg) Canada the starting salary is 28k and 53k after 5 years. Senior Constable (15 years service) makes 59 k. When you consider the value of the Canadian dollar today, 59 k would be approx. 10k American lol.
Philly PD - approx. $30,500.
I graduated the academy in December of 2000....so in about another month I'll have exactly a year on at my current assignment. In that time I estimate I've made an additional $10,000 on OT..including court, special details, holiday check, and uniform allowance. Some of the busier guys I work with should hit $60,000 by the end of this year...and they only have one more year on the job than me.
The small SO that I just retired from has a starting salary of about $22.500, which is also the max salary. We usually received about a 1% raise (.12 1/2 cents per hour) each year at the discretion of the all mighty county commissioners. No overtime to speak of. If you work over today, you go in that much later tomorrow. Doesn’t matter if you have been there a 100-years or 1-year, everyone gets the same salary. (Except the Chief Deputy, who makes a whopping 25K, Sheriff at about 31K) As sorry as this is, this salary seems to be the norm for all small sheriff dept’s in the Midwest region of NE, KS, IA and MO.
SARDOG,
$964.80 a month is not even 12K a year, one would qualify for food stamps on such a salary.

Delc,
You're absolutely correct. Ofcourse, this is without dependants. With dependants it could be $700.00 more a month depending on where you're stationed. And it is sad but there are plenty of soldiers/sailors on food stamps and other financial assistance. However, none of us joined for the money that is for sure.

My starting salary was 19,500 as an uncertified officer. The day I graduated the academy I went up to 21,000. Even those still in FTO or in the academy can work OT if they can get approval from the cheif to ride with somebody, such as Saturation patrols, DWI checkpoints, or working security at the college sporting events. Right now we have unlimited OT for speed enforcement and seat belts. A couple of us have almost 40 hours of OT for our paychecks, so right now OT is out there for anyone that wants it as long as you are not still in FTO.
This may sound like not alot of $$$$, but the cost of living here is really low. I was living the last three years in Colorado Springs and so it just doesn't compare. Also my department has only 29 sworn personnel for a municipal department. Every officer has a take home car, and I am getting a 2002 Impaula and tomorrow marks one year in the department for me.

Started as a GS-07 at about $26,000/year, but with OT and shift differential made $42,000 my first year.
Three years later as a GS-09, step 3 I made $65,000 this year. Not bad after three years!!
Of course, I work all the time, have no life, fiance left a year ago and I'm starting to get depressed..... But hey, for some of us there is no other line of work.

About 34K per year.
Small department in northeast Pennsylvania......
Probationary pay of approx. 26k for first year, then it jumps to top pay which is just shy of 41k ($40,842...I think).
Delc,
To hopefully answer you food stamp question.
Most people that enlist into the military are between the ages of 18-20 and single. They live in the barracks for free, eat at the chow hall (low cost) and medical/dental are free. I'm not saying it's all top notch, but hey it's cheap. Therefore, $950 a month looks pretty good.
It's when young E-1-E-3s get married and want to move off base in an area were the cost of living is through the roof that problems begin. Yes, they do get paid more, but in most cases it's not enough. Much is the case here in San Diego. I've heard rumors of jr. Sailors and Marines up in the Mira Mar area (10 minutes from downtown SD) having to receive food stamps because the cost of living is so high. Apartments run between $900-1400 a month. Then through a rug rat into the mix. Makes it kinda rough.
I'm only speaking of the San Diego area. I'm sure there are others that are worse.
Hoped this helped.
It will be $ 3,931 a month during the academy.
