Officer James Gilbert was laid to rest on 10-2-01 after being shot and killed on Friday 9-28-01. Officer Gilbert leaves behind a wife and little girl. Officer Gilbert had responded to a suicidal subject call. When he and his partner arrived they entered the house and could see the subject laying on a couch at the end of a hallway. The officers called to him to see if they could get him to respond. The officers started to approach the subject tactifully as they could and Officer Gilbert looked down the hallway and the subject started to fire striking Officer Gilbert above the left eye. Officer Gilbert will be missed by many but forgotten by few.
