So as I have posted, I am transfering from Army CID to HUD-OIG. Currently I am carrying the Sig 228 (9mm) and will be issued a Sig 229 (.357) from HUD. Can anyone provide any feed back into how differently these two weapons shoot. They are going to set me up with a range, but I would like to know if it is going to be like apples Vs. oranges. If so I might try to find a range so I can rent one of these to put a few rounds down range.
FYI-I'm not a FAM kind of shooter, I'm more of a middle of the road/lower end of expert shooter.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
I once did exactly the same: went from the 228 in 9mm to the 229 in .357. I didn't find it all that different to shoot. It's slightly thicker in the frame, but that's about it. Recoil wasn't a huge increase, either. I was actually able to use the 229 in my 228 holster.

That's good to hear.
I have the CQC Serpa and it states it will also hold the 299, we will see.

Unless your new gun has the rails. The P229R also has a differently shaped trigger guard, making most regular P229 holsters worthless.

Same experiences as Krellum. Just a bit more "pep" in the recoil as compared to its 9mm counterpart. Nothing so noticeable that it will cramp your style if that is what you're worried about.

As others have said some holsters might work with both guns, some might not. Even between the 228 and 229 in 9mm the slide is slightly thicker on the 229 so some holsters won't work on both, and that is definitely true between the 228 and 229 in .40/.357SIG.
The controls (slide release, decocker, mag release) etc, are exactly the same as your 228 so there won't be any issues there. Some people say the difference in recoil is noticeable, others say it's not much different. However, if you can shoot at the "low end of expert" you should be OK with the 229 in .357SIG.
