View Full Version : Glock 23 Problems?

I have a new Glock 23 and 2-3 times out of 50, I will get a light strike on the primer of a round and my weapon won't fire. I do immediate action, and it then works fine. The strike is on the center of the round, just not hard enough (I assume) to fire. The gun is lubed (not heavily since it's a Glock) and clean, and I have three new magazines and have experienced stoppages in each.

I thought it may be the ammunition, but no one else on the range has been having problems except me (four straight days). Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how was it corrected? Thanks....

The Glock Armorer's manual says a light, centered strike is likely due to either hard primer (SMG ammo) or an obstructed firing pin channel. Unless you yourself are a Glock armorer, I would take it to your agency armorer or a certified Glock Armorer (check with your local gun shop).

The only problems I have experienced with the 23 were a broken slide lock spring and grip interference with the extended slide stop (replaced with standard version, no problems).

Thanks FedRich, that helps greatly.

Glad I could help. Something to keep in mind during cleaning is to hold the slide vertical with muzzle end down while scrubbing the breach face. This helps prevent debris from falling into the firing pin channel.

I have a glock 17 and a 26, I have never had any problems with the 17 but I did have a few jambs with the 26. Every once in a while it doesn't eject the old casing.

I was having the same problem with my Glock 19. I bought a new steel guide rod and recoil spring and have not had a misfire since (several hundred rounds)

What type of ammo are you using?

If they are reloads (or factory too), look to see if the primer may be seated deeper than normal, which would also show a light firing pin strike.

Otherwise, it sounds like there is something not quite right on the firing pin/striker channel like FedRich mentioned. Also make sure the firing pin is not damaged or chipped.

If it is new, and the ammo looks OK, I would call Glock and have them check it out. I am sure they can send you a shipping label so it will be on their dime.

Hope it gets worked out!
