Anyone familiar with the Ready Reserve Mobilization Income Insurance Program?
A buddy of mine informed me about it and I read a little bit about it over the internet.
I heard what the program is suppose to do is help offset the effects of a reservist being called up for active duty.
From my understanding new enlistees into the reserves and reservist who have not yet been called into active duty are eligible as long as they have not declined the benefit. You also have to be called up for active duty for 30 days or more to collect your benefits. Supposedly, you pay a monthly cost and if you are called into active duty you can collect $1000-$5000 a month for any 12mos during an 18 month period. This would be added onto your regular salary be it from uncle sam or your current employer.
This would be really helpful considering my dept only pays up to two weeks if you are called into active duty. If I were to get called into active duty I would take close to a 50% pay cut. My family could not survive off of this.
I am wondering how how other reservists deal with issues like this? Any other similar programs to this?
I'll call my recruiter tomorrow to get more info but was wondering if anyone else is enrolled or collected benefited from this program.
