This last week has been a blast, I am writing this on the tail end of a 3 day weekend... well 2 day weekend seeing as I volunteered myself for the department's family day on Saturday...

I had fun this last week, we qualified with our duty weapon and 2 different shotguns, and they let us fire some familiarization rounds through a SIG 550 and H&K MP5; both semi and full auto.

Our duty weapon is the Beretta 96G with Trijicon night sights, our 2 shotguns in use are the Beretta 1201 Semi-auto and the Remington 870 pump shotgun. On the last day we got to set up some informal challenges, and I got the go ahead for a head shot with a solid slug from the 870 at 25yds. That and being former military I got the dubious distinction of not being given any instruction on the operation of the SIG 550 or MP5 and just handed a magazine and told to rock and roll. Hey, they were very impressed with the amount of control I had on full auto with both weapons; well I have had the opertunity to fire full auto before so I have had the training to control them. I was the only person in my group that had fired a fully automoatic weapon before, the other group had several former Marines...

Anyway the range was fun, I had not realised how much I miss being treated like an adult until this last week...

Next week is supposed to be a stress week, because they believe that the range and EVOC make us more relaxed in our formalities so they put us through the stress like the first few weeks. This week ends with our OC/CS certification... So it will be a long short week...

I hope everyone is well, take care out there!

Currently at the range myself, although we don't do any work with shotguns, or automatic weapons. We are training with Glock 17s, 9MM. I am one of those individuals that had no formal training at all with guns, so therefore, I had no bad habits to break.

Saturday we got the first chance for some "friendly competition" among classmates in relays and elimination. I did surprisingly well, and felt very comfortable by the end of the day.

I've wondered what the final qual course will consist of. Our instructors aren't wanting us to get ahead of ourselves, so they haven't told us about the qual course. We only need 70% to pass, but I don't know what that means. Could someone enlighten me on what a "typical" qual course consists of?

Unless they have changed things over there, you'll shoot the qual course quite a bit to prepare you for the final qual. If you fail the final qual on your first try they will let you retake the course again later that day. If you fail again, you can reschedule to take it again at a later date. If you fail a third time, you'll have to take the entire firearms course again. The CCA firearms instructors are excellent. If you have any problems during the training phase they will work with you on their off time. The only catch is that you have to pay them for it! You shouldn't have any problems qualifying on your first attempt.

Thanks for the info. CopDog....it is somewhat difficult to understand, but I get the basic gist of it. What is the furthest distance you shoot from?

I agree, the firearms instructors are top notch. Agent Knox has been great, and has kept control the class. I am feeling much more comfortable each day I spend at the range, and hopefully the qual will be a breeze. Any tips?

Take some milk to wash your eyes out! I used milk and water after the OC Spray and it seemed to help out with cooling things down...(maybe it is just me...) Enjoy yourself, and have fun! wash out, Open your eyes and get in a breeze as soon as possible! that helps! I wish you all the luck in the world, and keep me posted! I enjoyed following you through all that has happened in your academy so far! I know you are squared away, and will be AN AWESOME OFFICER!
