Thanks

gbcop,

I don't think the TABC has an ideal candidate. When I went through the academy our class had a TABC agent for a class and he was hired on his first try. However he had coworkers who had to apply multiple times. Some of his classmates had degrees, others did not. The same went for those with prior police experience. I think last year that had a total of 8 openings state wide with a couple hundred applicants. So it's probably more like playing the lottery. Good luck to you when you apply. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Thanks for your reply jdredd28. Around the middle of Sept this year, they had 8 opening's as well..... I've sent my application in, and just gonna have to see how things go. In the mean while I'm about to get hired at the local County Sheriff's dept as a jailer/deputy. Still haven't made up my mind if I want to let them pick up my commission or reserve at a more "appealing" department. But I'm keeping my finger's crossed that I'll have the TABC calling pretty soon to inform me I've made it to step 2 in the application process. Thanks again!

gbcop,

The testing for the TABC from my understanding is not that hard. I was told that the written really is a joke. Anyway, good luck with the sheriff's office. It is a foot in the door and will give you some good experience. Have you tried any agencies in Harris County. This is the time of the year to look since it is a new fiscal year.

Well I JUST got a letter from the TABC today. I'm scheduled for the written aptitude exam Oct 24th. I know the chances of me being one of the 8 applications to be accepted is slim to none, but I don't have a shot unless I show up. Guess I’ll see first hand how easy the test is, haha. :D

I really hope this works out, cause I'm not thrilled at all about working in the jail, but gotta start somewhere.
