San Diego, Calif - On July 26, 2007, Border Patrol Agent Eric Cabral from the San Diego Sector Border Patrol, Boulevard Station, died in the line of duty. Agent Cabral, a 31-year-old San Diego native, died at a local hospital after aerial medical extraction from Jacumba, California. Agent Cabral was conducting patrol duties on foot near the De Anza Springs Resort when the incident occurred.

Agent Cabral and his partner were tracking a group of suspected illegal aliens north of Interstate 8 near Jacumba, California, when they separated. They then lost radio contact, and another agent found Agent Cabral unresponsive near the De Anza Springs Resort. Mercy Air responded and extracted the agent by air to a local hospital. Medical personnel were unable to revive Agent Cabral.
Border Patrol Agent Eric Cabral entered on duty September 26, 2005, with Border Patrol Session 601.

San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Michael Fisher expressed his condolences to family, friends, and co-workers of Agent Cabral. Chief Fisher commented, “Agent Cabral lost his life serving and protecting the Nation, and on-behalf of the Border Patrol, we send our sincerest thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult period.”
