ATF special agent killed in two-car crash

WEST SPRINGFIELD - A special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives died in a two-car crash that also killed the other driver Wednesday night on Interstate 91.
Kimberly Place, 43, was assigned to the ATF’s Springfield gun task force. She was returning from an enforcement operation when the crash occurred at about 6:37 p.m., an agency spokesman said Thursday.
State Police said Thursday that Eduardo Gonzalez, 19, was speeding while driving northbound on I-91 in West Springfield. He lost control of his car, crossed into the southbound side, and struck Place’s car head-on.
Place lived in Westfield and was a native of Gloucester, according to the ATF.
