On the subject of a possible future draft I would be interested to know who you believe would be called up. Firstly, what ages are likely to be involved? Secondly, if someone is employed as a law enforcement officer is that considered an "essential service", which therefore disqualifies them from any national draft? Is this enshrined in any federal or state laws?

I would be quite surprised if they instituted the draft. I don't think there is even the smallest chance of that happening.

Law enforcement is not considered an essential service when it comes to the draft. Some agencies such as the secret service/fbi and I belive FEMA are given exemptions for their members respectivly. I honestly dont see a resumption of the draft.

I highly doubt a draft will be initiated. During the Gulf War they didn't have a draft and that campaign was bigger than this one is, so far. I highly doubt they would call up LEO's unless they are in reserves and guard.

I think they should bing back the draft. Every graduating high school student, male and female should have to serve in the armed forces a minimum of 2 to 3 years. the current recruiting problems would disappear, and we would have a better class of citizens, who would appreciate all the sacrifices made for them by previous members of the armed forces. Just my opinion. Stay safe.

I respect all the opinions before but I have to disagree with Tampa because of this 1 reason. Our military is the best for a couple of reasons but one of them is because the people in the military want to be here. If we were to have a draft, especially nowadays, I certainly wouldn't want some young punk kid out of highschool, who couldn't give a crap about the military, sitting in a fox hole next to me. If they don't want to be there, then don't force them. That is how people die. I know there are a lot of officers ont his board who wouldn't want a brand new LEO being their partner if he was just there for the money or was nervous around guns. Same principle. I think the draft would hurt rather than help. Let the people who want to fight fight and the people who don't, not fight. Just my .02 though.
