As most of you know, I am going through the motions with NYSP. I am just waiting on the "letter". I am also in the Air National Guard and have been activated federally. At first my Commander (who is a NY state trooper) told me she was going to keep me off the deployment rotation because she didn't want to ruin my future with NYSP. Word now is that she contacted some higher ups on base and they will not let me go to the academy under federal activation. I am tentatively scheduled for the Jan 2002 class. So, looks like I will be putting my new career on hold until this stuff is over with. The good thing is that the personnel office said that When I do go to the academy, I will hold my Seniority from the Jan 2002 class. Hopefully we kick some butt over there and we get our men and women home soon!

You still have a few months yet, just have faith that things have a way of working out..........although they won't for your Patriots this week against my Chargers!:hustle:

SP20,

I feel your pain. I am scheduled to attend a Jan 2002 academy class for a municipal PD. I am active duty and submitted my resignation this summer; however, I am now in limbo as well. It stings just a little more when your goal is so close.

Best of luck to the both of us.

Hey,
I know things were going good with the Troopers! Did you get the offical letter yet? I'm still waiting, but hopeful. You never know how things may go, hopefully they won't need you when Jan. rolls around. I do know then NYSP are very good about holding spaces (my recruiter had mentioned this in a presentation). They are running a July 2002 class as well, so maybe you'll just have a few months wait. Good Luck and stay safe!

FL boy,

Bang up job by the Chargers defense this weekend....That 4th quarter defense was remarkable...they only had a 13 point lead with 6 minutes or so to go....wooohahahahah Wasn't that the 2nd string QB that Pat's had in there....

Seriously, I work the games at Foxboro Stadium, and I was rooting for Flutie cause he is a standup guy.

SP20 how was the process going did they let you know if you were hired or not. Sorry to hear about that but the next class is July only 8 months away so it will happen for you.

HEy guys,
Anyway, I ended up talking with mr probst who is the second in charge in the personnel office. He stated that If I couldn't make the jan class, I could go to whatever class I was available for and I would still get my seniority dated from Jan 2002. I probably would getmy first choice coming out of the academy because I will out rank all the recruits. I also just talked to mrs leclair who is in personnel also and she said to wait to defer until I'm positive I can't make the class. She said I have up until a couple of days before the class starts to defer.

I asked her when the medical was supposed to be and she said Dec 1st and then she looked my name up on the list. She didn't say if I was getting a letter but she didn't say I wasn't either and she said to be ready to receive a letter in the mail sson regarding the medical.

Hopefully we are deactivated soon. A lot of troopers I work with in the military are losing big money due to being activated.

Sounds good! I hope you get the Jan class! Let me know when you get the medical letter. Also did they offically tell you, you were hired, or are they just telling you the steps to take 'should' you be slected? I'm just wondering seeing I'm only a couple of weeks behind you in the process. Once again take care and stay safe!
PS Do you know if you can call Albany to check your status?

SP20,
Sorry things got put on hold for you. Though it sounds like you may be in a better position (in getting your choice of assignment location) coming out of the academy. I'm a firm believer that all things happen for a reason.

At least you know that your spot is safe while you are serving in the ANG. Try to look at it that way and I hope you can get a good first assignment with the NYSP someday soon.

Thanks too for your ANG service. Many people need the help right now and should be proud of yourself. Be careful.

Thanks Secret Squirrel, I am proud.

College kid-They havn't told me I am hired. From what I understand from talking to the troopers I work with, If you get this medical letter, you are pretty much guaranteed a seat unless you fail the medical. Also, If you havn't been doing your situps and pushups, start doing them again because at the medical they have you test on them two again. Then about a week before the academy, they have a pt test again. Good luck, they said we should be getting medical letters soon.

SP20,
I can tell you, from experience, that if you get the medical letter, you are good to go. They have changed the process over the last couple of years, and they try to review all the packets before they invite you to process in the medical. I guess it is a cost saving measure on their part.
Good luck to you,
-J

SP20,
Thanks for the info. I heard they started giving the PT tests again because people were showing up out of shape for duty. I've been keeping up and increasing my running, but I could always benifit from a few more sit-ups! Take Care and hopefully ANG will let you out early!

SP20, Looks like you won't be missing out on the Jan academy anyway...I just heard that the GOV. put a hold on all "state" new hires indefinately. Granted, he might not have meant NYSP, but it sure sounds kinda dismal.
-J
"ALBANY -- Gov. George Pataki, reacting to the economic problems created by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, ordered state officials today to freeze all hiring and cut all non-essential spending. Pataki aides said the hiring freeze and early retirement plan would be designed to cut 5,000 jobs from the state government work force. The state employs more than 190,000 people." Yeah I saw that report also but I switched to the next channel which said the hiring freeze wont effect any of the health or security services i.e. New York State Police. I was scared for a second these 10 second sound bites cant hold a candle to a newspaper article

I got a call from a State LE agency on October 18th about a job so I know that at least some State agencies are not under the freeze. Just a thought.

Hey Maseman,
Was the State LE job with the New York Troopers? Thanks!
