My agency is taking my Glock and giving me a Sig 229.

For the last 5 years, I've used Bladetech's IWB holster for my Glock and had no problems with it. However, with the added weight of the 229, I was wondering if an IWB like the DeSantis Scorpion (with its belt clips spread out a little wider) would be more stable and better for my back.

Any thoughts?

thanks

Be careful what you buy. SIG has recently changed SOME of the P229's to include a light rail. When they did so, they changed the shape of the trigger guard from rounded to angled with a spur (same as the "old" P226 trigger guard). This "new" P229 does not fit in many P228/P229 holsters. Make sure you look at P229 holsters marked for P229R if this is what they issue you.

I have been wearing the Bladetech with the P229 for about a year now. Haven't had any problems with the back so far. Tried a couple IWB holsters. But the most comfortable for me is the Bladetech.

Ditto on the Bladetech. I have a UCH for a 229 (it also fits a 239) and it works nicely! Just make sure you get the right one, like kennethm3 said... I know a lot of people who have order one thinking it would fit the other.

Look up CrossBreed holster. Guy advertises in American Police Beat. I order it and am very impressed. Holds my Sig very well and is very comfortable, especially if you have a few extra inches of padding!

I'm not even sure if SIG makes the standard P229 any longer??? :o If you go to their website and click on any picture labeled P229 they all show a weapon that has the rail and squared off trigger guard. You might want to check on this before you invest in a holster.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are getting the new 229R DAK model.

BladeTech is supposed to be nice, although I don't have one. Check out Comp-Tac dot com(hope that doesn't violate rules). Their CTAC is pretty nice and very versatile. The best feature is that it's tuckable. No more need for big shirt, cover jacket, etc

I own a P229 DAO and was issued the 229 DAK for a short while. I wasn't impressed at all, but I must admit some prejudice against when almost nothing in my bushel basket full of holsters would fit it. I have never had a problem with the DAO (10K+ rds) but in six months had 9 logged malfunctions (FTF, FTE, Failure to fully go into battery) with the DAK. I was left less than impressed. I hope you have better luck.
