I did a search and saw an old thread about 5.11 boots. Just wondering if anybody has any updated reviews since I am thinking about buying a pair hopefully over the weekend (early Christmas gift :D)
Not a big fan of really tall boots but I do want them to be bloodborne pathogen- resistant.
Thanks
I have a pair of the 6" Haste boots that I've worn on boardings, range days, and warrants. They are well made, very comfortable, and breathe well, especially when combined with the 5.11 boot socks. While not waterproof, they are surprisingly water resistant.
I just bought a pair of the coyote ATAC 8' boots about a month ago.
I LOVE THEM!
They are super light and comfortable, more so than any other boots Iv'e warn in my 5 years in LE. My feet also used to get cold pretty often, more than any other part of my body......pretty much due to them sweating I think. That hasn't been the case with these, which suggests to me they are breathable.
The next time I need to buy some traditional black ones, I'll head right back to 5.11.

I have been sporting my 5.11 HRT boots for about 1.5 years and I love them. Really light, comfortable and I am amazed at a 1.5 year mark the non-slip non-screech soles still work like day one. Mine are not waterproof but I have yet to have my dogs get wet even after being up to my ankles in mud and water at the range. I would definitely recommend their boots.
i have the 8" ATAC boots w/ side zip and LOVE them. Super comfy and light as well

Sorry but I have to disagree...I have the 6" ATAC Low Boot and I'll never buy 5.11 boots again. I tried on a pair with the side zip and it felt like my ankle rolled towards the zipper side of the boot. The ones I have don't have the zipper but no matter how tight you tie them they still feel unsecure around the ankle. I've also found that there is little padding in the soles if you're going to be on your feet for long periods of time. Granted, I still wear them everyday but I just won't buy another pair. My co-workers all seem to really like Oakley, Danner, and Converse boots.
Just try them on before you buy if you can. Everyones feet are different.
I've worn several different types of boots and hands down the most comfortable and durable pair I've had were made by Altama. They make a line of tactical boots that will withstand whatever situation your in (warrants, regular patrol, rain, snow ....whatever). 6" or 8" boots with an "exoskeleton" that will fit snugly on your feet.
I'll never buy another duty boot again!

I was a big fan of Danner Arcadia until I got HRT's. They are like high top basketball shoes but can take much more abuse. Very comfortable and easy to run in. Danners shine up nice but running in them wasn't easy. What I'm saying is, it depends on what you are going to use them for. HRT's aren't a "dress" boot because you can't shine them for looking nice in uniform, but they are an excellent boot for tactics.

HEY, as long as they are TACTICAL!!!
This morning, I even got out of bed TACTICAL....I mean heck, everything I do is TACTICAL!:D
2007 buzzword of the year...
I found the Acadia's a bit too snug for my liking, plus they were trashed during Katrina, so I went to the Danner Sequoia's. A bit higher, bit beefier, more comfortable, and BROWN instead of the typical cop-look black boots.
I tend to stick with boots made by people who've always been making them - Danner, Rocky, etc. Not sure I'd trust 5.11 boots this early in their boot-making history. But that's just me - they may perform well, in any case, and it looks like they are for some folks.
Off topic, but since I'm just about 5.11-ed out, I found an alternative to 5.11 pants that are actually better (IMO). Cabela's makes a hiking pant that looks a lot like the 5.11's, but differs in several important ways. It's the same beefy material, but with actual back pockets that have flaps (instead of those slash pockets that give the 5.11's their trademark look) and bigger cargo pockets, also with flaps. They don't look like "agent pants", which is why I like them. They also come with either fleece or flannel lining, which is kind of nice here in the northland.

I decided to go with the HRT's after hearing nothing but good things about them only problem is the stores down here don't have them in stock
So instead of doing an online order I made a few calls and found a new police supply shop that come the first of the year will not only have HRT's but a good amount of 5.11 and blackhawk products :D
If anybody down here in South Florida is looking for a good police supply place send me a pm the guy has great deals and is retired from Metro Dade.

If you pick up one of their credit cards (pay off the balance each month.. the interest rate is s-c-a-r-y) you'll receive "Get a $XX gift card when you spend this much!" or "$XX off purchases of $100 or more!" offers with pretty good regularity. The prices are pretty decent even without those offers, but paying less is always better than paying more.
If you're close enough to visit one of their stores, in-store alterations are pretty convenient ("Hey, can you sew this to exactly 32.35 inches? Thanks!") and give you enough time to hit the deli. Mmmmmmm... ostrich.

Already have one and already do. I must have about $400.00 in points right now. They will also hem for free if you order online (though you need to be sure of the size because they're non-returnable if they do it).
BTW - I think the Cabela's Visa was rated like #2 or 3 among Consumer Reports "best credit cards". They took into account not only interest rates, but customer service, security, fees, etc. Cabela's has no annual fee and they're pretty quick to call me if I suddenly travel to another state and make a purchase. Pretty happy with them. As far as interest rates, I've never paid a dime, so the rate doesn't really bother me.

Have literally had to reglue the sole on them after three months (8" HRT).
Sent 5.11 photos and they sent me another pair (with out prompting) and ran them to the ground in six months.
I run with Converse 9"s and so far (been two months), the seam of the sole is starting to let go.
Yes, am hard on boots (CBPO) and have found if your feet aren't happy, neither is the wearer. Sixteen hour shifts at a land border is the true test.
Magnums lasted the longest. Bates were like wearing bricks. Danners are just too narrow.
You know they say about a guy with BIG feet!
