What are some of the best cruiser paint designs you have seen?

By all means, describe or show a picture of your favorite police car.

WE JUST GOT SOME NEW ONES FROM WHO KNOWS--AFTER THE ATTACKS--THEY ARE NEW CHEVY IMPALAS, PAINTED WHITE, THE REAR SAYS "POLICE IN BLUE LETTERS, THE SIDES HAVE A GIGANTIC RED WHITE AND BLUE FLAG APPEARING TO BE WAVING IN THE WIND PAINTED AGAINST THE WHITE BACKGROUND OF THE CAR, THE WORDS "NYPD" APPEAR IN SMALL LETTERS ON THE SIDES.

This isn't a paint design but I just heard on the news today that Dodge will be introducing a Intrepid police package in 2002. 240hp was the only feature they mentioned.

Usually the best paint designs I've seen are on DARE cars since they usually go overboard with the paint and put some weird stuff on them to amuse the kiddies.

The best I've seen were the one's I was assigned to. Who cared what it looked like, it was mine and that meant I had the job I wanted!!

Yeah, I was talking to a friend of mine who mentioned the Intrepid police crusier. Sounds nice but I wonder about the power of the V6, it sure ain't no LT1 Caprice. And front wheel drive, no more drifting, say it ain't so...

The reason why I started this thread is because a buddy of mine is on a department that has more money than they know what to do with (thanks to a GM plant) and he hopes to get the paint scheme changed on their cars, so I am fishing for ideas.

Having a waving American flag on the side sounds pretty nice. But what is the deal with the new Impalas? The department I am interning with right now has them and the officers on midnights don't seem to fond of them, not enough room for equipment, especially with a partner in the car. The officer I rode with hopes they go back to the Crown Vic in the next year when they buy cars.

I'm sure that the Intrepid police cruiser will be a piece of crap just like the Chevy Impala, the new one. There is only one "cruiser" out there now, the Ford Police Interceptor. Not bad, but not a Chevy Caprice. Front drive won't hold up and those Intrepid seats are low to the ground, try crawling in and out of it all day.

The New York State Police has Z28 Camaro's that are pretty nice looking. There all supped up underneath the hood. They are a 6 speed 5.7 liter @ 300hp!! I have also seen Mustangs used out west in the desert, and in texas as well. But I personally like the Z28's!:cool:

I have never seen any actual pursuit car, but any of the ones you mentioned above are nice. The pursuit cars are only utilized by state police I believe.

The only thing I have to say is that I guess im partial to the ol black and whites...Crown vic PI ofcourse. Not to low not to high. Its killer trying to get out of a small low car with your duty belt on..day after day hour after hour. Welcome to back pain.

Yeah, i agree those Impalas are a little low, they grind the front end anytime there is a steep driveway. Not to mention, here in Ohio we have a lot of fields that might be used for escape in a pursuit, if we are chasing a 4x4 through a plowed field...buh bye!:mad:

The new Police Package Intrepid is based on the R/T version and will be REAR WHEEL DRIVE. I've driven the Intrepid (new body style) and I loved it. The doors where bigger and the back seat was bigger so you could mount the cage a little further back. Which in turn would increase your front room space. The car also feels bigger than a CV. Just my opinion. Stay safe.

I sure hope the Intrepid is Rear Wheel Drive. I haven't found anything about that yet...do you have a link that I could go to for the rear wheel stats?

It sounds nice, the more room the better...it means a bigger office!:D

Stay cocked and locked y'all,

James

Srosibley is mistaken, the Intrepid is FWD. Chrysler(Dodge) hasn't made a rear drive passenger car in over ten years (Prowler and Viper don't count) Sorry, I want a big rear drive car as much as everyone. We're screwed if Ford ever discontinues the Police Interceptor. Stay safe out there.

Dodge returns to police vehicle production with 2002 Intrepid package

AutoWeek.com

It's been 12 years since Dodge offered anything with a cop motor, cop shocks and cop suspension, but the hiatus ends with the introduction of the 2002 Intrepid police car package.

Available only to our friends in blue (or brown, depending on your jurisdiction), the police package includes a 242-hp high-output version of Dodge's 3.5-liter V6, high-performance suspension, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and heavy-duty cooling system. There's even a "stealth" mode that dims all instruments (including the 150-mph speedo) to allow for undetected pursuits.

The former Chrysler Corporation dominated the police car business throughout the 1960s, 70s and early 80s with market shares ranging from 45-60 percent. Police vehicles manufactured by Chrysler Corp. included the Dodge Royal Monaco, Dodge Coronet, Dodge Aires, Dodge Diplomat, Dodge Dart, Dodge St. Regis, Plymouth Gran Fury, Plymouth Volare, Plymouth Reliant, and Chrysler Newport.

Chrysler-manufactured police cars were also popular in Hollywood. The television show Car 54 featured a Desoto police car, Adam 12 featured the Plymouth Satellite and AMC Matador police vehicles while the Blues Brothers movie featured Dodge Monaco police vehicles.

Production for the 2002 Dodge Intrepid police vehicle begins in January, 2002 at the Brampton, Ontario assembly plant, where the Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler 300M and Chrysler Concorde are built.

2002 Dodge Intrepid Police Vehicle Special Features:
* 150 mph-calibrated, certified speedometer
* Severe-duty cooling system for high-temperature, high-speed performance
* External engine oil, transmission oil, and power steering coolers for high-temperature, high-speed performance
* Four-speed automatic transaxle with overdrive
* Column shifter
* Heavy-duty four-wheel anti-lock brakes
* Heavy-duty cloth front bucket seats with manual lumbar adjustment and vinyl rear bench seat for comfort and leg room
* 160-amp high-output alternator to handle computers, electronics and lights
* 100-amp battery power and ignition feed to instrument panel to support high-tech equipment
* 100-amp battery power feed to trunk
* Ground stud in trunk
* Dome lamp switch deactivated
* Rear window inoperative from rear seat
* Rear inside door locks and handles deactivated
* Emergency rear door lock override
* Dual spot lamp prep package
* Wiring for alternating lamps
* "Stealth mode" switch that turns off instrument panel cluster and radio indicators and dims PRNDL to lowest legal limit for stealth pursuit
* Fog lamps which provide additional lighting for safety and visibility
* Optional switchable daytime running lamps for safety during the day

Thanks kennethm3 for the update, that is what i thought i read too. But i was praying so bad for it to be rwd that i guess i was doubting myself. the interceptor is a good car i just wish they would make the engine a little more comparable to the ls1 that chevy made, in the long run the engine isn't really a big deal, but hey it is something to chat about.

stay safe,

james

Well, now that I'm with Customs and not a "real" cop anymore, I'd give anything to drive an interceptor again. The Manlius, NY Police Dept. used to have beautiful cars: Silver/Blue with a stripe, the badge on the door, the national accredidation seal on the fender, nice MX7000 lightbars (God I miss those cars..) Now they have white cars and Tahoes with decals. The University at Buffalo Police have a tasteful looking cruiser too, as does the Onondaga County Sheriff's Dept. (all black with red and gold stripes and shield on the doors) I've driven basically all the different types of cars out there, the Caprice, the Crown Vic, Impala, Expedition, Tahoe, etc...
The Caprice will always have a place in the hearts of anyone who drove one. They went like a raped ape, handled superbly, had lots of room, and took an amazing beating. I saw a tape of the last lap driven by the caprice at some police car testing ground....brings a tear to the eye :crying:

I look at the smaller cars that are becoming popular like the Impala and I keep getting the feeling that we are becoming more like Europe...it makes sense for them because the fasting thing the might pursue is a Festiva or Proton. But man, the officers I know who have to use the Impala only complain about them, except for the front wheel drive in the Ohio winters. The biggest complaint is that the interior is too small, especially for a two man car.

Take care,
James

I like the paint scheme of the Colorado State Patrol and Arapahoe County Sheriff.
I can’t find a good link to a CSP Prowler, but you’ll get an idea form this link: http://csp.state.co.us/esu.htm

Here are some pictures of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s units. I really only like the Impala. The "dropped" Chevy Tahoe makes no sense to me. Here is a good link: http://www.arapahoesheriff.org/patrol/patrol~cars.htm

Just an FYI for ya'll, the pics that JerseyBoy put a address to for the pics of the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan Police Dept. cars have a lightbar that is made in my little town of St. Cloud, MN. They are made by 911 Emergency Products. They may look small, and damn near make the car look like a slick-top, but man those things really light em up at night.

My friend has seen one used in the middle of the night. He told me they were really bright. I like them, probably saves money on gas, and better yet, they are harder to spot by drivers.

Thanks for the info on them,
James
