2002 Dodge Intrepid Police Cruiser--Opinions

Hi All,

Just curious to see what you think of the new 2002 Dodge Intrepid police cruiser. I think I would like it (soon-to-be LEO, but I have done ride-alongs in all models of CVPI's and those front seats are murder on the back).

I think the suspension and handling attributes would be the most profound, since the Intrepid is a nice handling car. Plus, it's FWD for those of us in the ball-shrinking cold areas of the country. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, LEOs -- I'm anxious to hear your opinions, especially if any of you have had seat time in this new car.

Not a LEO yet, but I've driven this car many times and love it (the non-police version). A great idea and I hope NYPD changes out its Impalas!

I like my Concorde which is basically an Intrepid. It handles well and rides nice. I really don't like the loss of power that is happening though. Put a special police edition V8 (5.4L or so...) in the Intrepid and then I would really like it...if they could get AWD involved like Subaru then I would be really be all for it.

Whatever happened to LS1 engine type of power? The Ford Interceptor was tested against a regular Crown Victoria(in one of the major car mags...Motor Trend, Car and Driver, or something like that) last year and the regular "civilian" Crown Vic actually was faster in acceleration. I just don't like the idea that my car might get blown away by a 80's Monte Carlo or Z28, at least give me a car that can keep up until I get more units in the area.

That Dodge looks pretty cool! We just took delivery of these as our new Highway Patrol cars. GM in Australia is known as "Holden". These cars are excellent.

I dont know... looks kind of dopey to me. I personally like the Caprice best. Raw power. Just my opinion though.
