Hello,
I've been lurking in these forums for about a month now, soaking up all the information. I figured it was my time to join the fray and MAYBE someday I can pass on my experiences and the trials and tribulations of becoming an LEO.
Anyhow, I'm not getting much younger, just turned 29, so I figured I'd better get the ball rolling in persuing my life-long dream of being a PO. I'm leaving the IT field to do something worthwhile not just for society in general but also for myself - to serve and protect (yeah like you guys haven't heard that one) but to also meet challenges head-on, do something that I can be proud of, and see tangible results of my efforts.
I went to the Criminal Justice Career Fair held at the Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien (suburb of Seattle) yesterday and that was very enlightning. I met great officers and received a lot of information that was very encouraging (like a lot of depts are testing quite frequently versus just once a year due to high number of retirements or from the lack of qualified apps). I ran into a few agencies/depts I would have never thought about applying for, ie the State Liquor Control Board were hiring enforcement agents and the Port of Seattle Police.
So far I'm planning on testing with Seattle PD in November, Pierce County Sherrifs in December, the KCSO in January, Port of Seattle Police in April, and several other local departments (Federal Way, Renton, Kent, and Auburn).
One thing bothered me though, and that was the Seattle PD. They had a booth but no rep! I had a load of questions lined up and no one was manning their booth! Some other guy from another nearby booth just snickered and said to me "Well just goes to show you the lack of professionalism of the SPD." I know from searching this forum, the SPD is pretty well respected so that guy's comment was uncalled for.
Sorry I talk too much.
I'll continue to look forward to all of your comments in these forums. Keep up the good work!
