Highway Patrol trooper killed in crash
Associated Press - August 27, 2008 9:24 PM ET
COLUMBIA FALLS, Mont. (AP) - The Montana Highway Patrol has released the name of a trooper who died in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 2 near Columbia Falls last night.
Trooper Evan Schneider was killed in the crash at about 7:15 p.m. He was 29, and had been with the patrol since January 2004. He is survived by his wife, Carrie.
His brother, James, is also a trooper stationed in the Kalispell district.
Officials say Schneider was traveling eastbound with his emergency flashing lights on and was trying to pull over another vehicle when an oncoming pickup truck crossed the center line and struck his car head-on.
Flathead County authorities say a man in that truck -- 42-year-old Roy A. Moore -- was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. A woman who was in the truck was gravely injured.
