1 Deputy Dies, Another Injured In 1-Car Crash On I-71

COLUMBUS, Ohio--The Circleville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a one-car fatal crash on Interstate 71 on the South Side of Columbus at Stringtown Road. It was re-opened around 6 a.m. Saturday.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. and traffic was diverted to Interstate 270 for most of the night. The Ohio State Highway Patrol told NBC 4, two Franklin County deputies were traveling southbound on I-71, lost control of their vehicle, struck a culvert and overturned.
Chief Steve Martin of The Franklin County Sheriff's office tells NBC 4, Deputy Marty Martin, 35 years old, died as a result of injuries sustained from the crash and Deputy Lucas Holt, 31 years old, is currently in the hospital in serious condition.
The funeral arrangements are pending at this time for Deputy Martin and will be handled by the Graumlich and Son Inc., funeral home.
