In general how difficult is OCS compared to regular bootcamp? I'm particularly interested in the Marine OCS but I guess any info would be helpful, thanks!

While basic training is going to be difficult, OCS is going to be much more intense. The training officers are going to be well experienced officers and NCO'S who will test you to your extreme limits and beyond! Aside from the academic portions, there's going to be alot of tactics, sleep deprivation and testing of your decision making process under stress. The training is going to determine your ability to lead and get the job done! It's not a ride in the park, however successful completion means opportunity later on!
Have a great day!
Having gone to USMC OCS and Paris Island, I think I can shed some light on this topic. I am often asked "which one is harder" and my reply is-- OCS is harder to complete but boot camp sucks a lot more. While at boot camp your are the lowest of the low, you are told when to do everything from getting dressed to using the head. OCS is different in that you are allowed a little more freedom. As they saying goes...you are given just enough rope to hang yourself with. You are expected to demonstrate to the staff that you have leadership skills. At any time you may be responsible for between 4-50 of your fellow candidates in both a garrison and field environment. Physically, OCS is much harder. It's a PT academy. Showing up out of shape is not an option. The staff at OCS is also much more likely to drop a candidate for poor performance than at boot camp. Hope this helps.
