I have a little over 1 year of college left before I get my BS in criminal justice. I spent 1 year in ROTC before I transferred schools and really enjoyed it. I was thinking about rejoining the Army as an MP after graduation and going to OCS.
1) Can anyone give me an idea of the duties of an MP officer?
2) Also, someone told me the Army MPs host civilian internships. Does anyone know if this is true?

Do a search on the subject and you will come up with countless descriptions of the job.

If you have the opportunity to return to ROTC before graduation, you should consider. Then you're going to have to decide between OCS or enlistment as an MP. It's possible to enlist for OCS and request MP branch. There's going to be a 50-50 shot as to getting your choice of branch. It boils down to the needs of the service and vacancies projected for the time of your commission. Once you get your commission, you're a 2nd LT and probably going to be a platoon leader in a line MP company. After doing some time with the troops, you'll probably get some time in a Provost Marshal Office or move up the chain into company operations and subsequently command of a unit upon reaching the rank of Captain. Going the OCS route from the street means a minimum of a 4 year obligation on active duty. This means it's likely that at the end of 4 years, you're probably going to be a 1ST lieutenant. If you continue with the ROTC route, you can get your commission and branch assignment to MP before you move on to active duty. I'm not aware of a civilian internship. What were you thinking of it being? I still have alot of contacts within the MP Corps and can make inquiry if it's necessary.

Have a great day!

You know yesterday, I would have answered you question differently. But as of today, AFOSI has released a new 1811 VA. I think if I were you I would look into USAF OCS and then request transfer to OSI. I say this because as an MP you may not get the recognition with a Fed Agency when it comes to "real LE" experience. I say that is CRAP, because I think you get more, but what do I know. I have a buddy on with USSS and when he got out of the Army he was a CPT looking at Major. At first USSS didn't want to bring him on higher than a GS-5. Why? They said MP was not like real LE. He had to prepare a written response and argue his case just to get a 7. In the Army there are very limited opportuities with CID as a commissioned officer. AFOSI has numerous opportunities, and they are widely respected.

Good Luck no matter which route you take.
