Got back Wednesday from the conference in Springfield Illinois. It had the largest attendance of any conference in the country with the exception of the one that California had (Darn Californians). Most of the material pertained to Illinois like our new LEADS 2000 system and MABAS and Illinois' current situation with Phase II wireless technology. These are just some of the classes I attended and of course I met alot of great people from all over the midwest but mostly IL. And I must mention the food. Oh yes, one of my most favorite things about attending conferences where your agency pays for everything. :D :D :D

It's different for each state for the most part because there are different FCC mandated schedules for different wireless carriers. One county in IL is Phase II now. Many more are Phase I like my agency. Some of the far southern parts of Illinois are still pathetically Basic 911 not even E-911. That should just be illegal... But anyway, spokespeople for the ICC said that most carriers have to be at leats Phase I no later than the end of 2002. So within the next year Illinois will be almost totally Phase I. I do have to toot my own horn by saying that Illinois is a leader nationwide of 911 issues. I was very impressed with the people that spoke at our conference and what they had to say about our efforts.
