Any thoughts as far as preferred ammo for this weapon? This will be my backup/off-duty "tool".

Thanks,

Federal or Remington Law Enforcement 155gr. Jacketed Hollow Point for off-duty carry but too hot for regular target practice, this load tears up Beretta 96D's in about 4000 rounds. This is the INS/Border Patrol load, they have had really good success with it in dozens of shootings. It will punch through a windshield, a car door, etc. but tends to not over penetrate a torso hit. Somewhere out there you can find a copy of the INS/BP testing/evaluation that decided on this round. It was in several gun mags about a year ago. Good luck, stay safe.

No arguments here. Having that kind of ammo in my off-duty
Glock 27 seriously tempts me to carry it as a back up to my puny 9mm.

But make sure you shoot at least a magazine full during practice shooting; it's a powerful round that you should be prepared for in a high-stress situation.

The accuracy of a Glock should keep you pretty straight though.

Although we must carry the department issued round for our duty and off-duty weapon, (I'll get the exact details later) they are winchester hollow points... I have always been a bit of a fan of the HydraShock round from Federal. I think the Starfire or Golden Sabre is also a good one, (might have the names wrong).

I am very impressed with the Glocks and own a 27 myself. I would be very comfortable shooting any type of ammo through it. I think it would be reliable and dependable regardless of load type, (within reason).

Personally I like the fact I can carry my 27 with mags from my 22 and have the extra ammo if I need it. Slapping in a 15 round 22 mag into my 27 makes it look a little funky, but it works!

I carry our duty round (FED HYDRA SHOCK 180 gr) in my off duty G 27. In my County we have had 4 shootings in 4 yrs, with 3 of them including cars... We are 4 for 4 in fatal wounds.

Try the CCI Gold Dot 155 grain, awesome round that is what I carry in all my 40's, I carry the 200 grain Gold Dot in my Glock 30 .45ACP. Love the round it really packs a serious punch.

You might try CORBON. They have some great +P and +P+ ammo. The G27 seems to like the 165gr and 180gr rounds. South Bend Indiana did a test to select .40 cal ammo for their Sigs. After a very tight race between Federal Hydrashocks and CORBON 135gr ammo, they went with the CORBON because of bullet performance. The CORBON ammo expanded to .60 cal in every test even with heavy clothing without overpenetration. The 165gr Hydrashocks only failed once in the test. I carry 165gr Federal Hydrashocks in my G23 and in my G27 while at work to keep with policy. Before I started with the Department I would keep the 135gr CORBON in my .40 cal. It would be safe to say that either one would be a good choice.
