Pls look at the USCS web-site on info regarding an inspector who lost his life in the line of duty inspecting a vessel. Yeah...We don't deserve 6C status, we only put our lives in danger every single day for our country's well-being, provide intel, write and distribute MOIRs, make arrests, detain wanted fugitives, do preliminary investigations, sometimes play key roles in S/A duties, etc, etc, etc... I still love my job and the people I work with.

Message from Commissioner Robert C. Bonner
A Loss in the Line of Duty
Today, we suffered the tragic loss of U.S. Customs Inspector Thomas Murray, who died in the line of duty this morning at the Port of Gramercy, in Louisiana.
Inspector Murray lost his life during an examination of the hold of a vessel in which toxic fumes were apparently present. He died in service to his country, doing what his fellow inspectors and Customs employees across the nation do every single day, at a time when it has never mattered more: protecting America.
Inspector Murray was a member of the Customs family for thirty-one years. He began his career in International Falls, Minnesota in 1970, after serving in the United States Air Force.
He is survived by his family: his wife, Joan, and six children; his parents, Jack and Donna Murray; and five brothers, one of whom also serves as a U.S. Customs Inspector.
At this time, I ask all Customs employees to join with me in remembering Inspector Murray and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
Sadly, another loss to the USCS family. Unsung heros like this make you proud to defend America on this job.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want, His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime, But He gives me courage and peace of mind.
He leads me by still waters in the path I trod, And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God," He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul, For His name's sake He keeps me whole.
When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door, I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more; For Thou art with me every step of the way, As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.
He prepares a table, especially for me, As I work daily among life's enemies; He gives me authority to uphold the law, And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, Each day of my life through eternity; As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...," When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

To all the USCS members I am sorry for your loss. I am a former USCS Insp [JFK] and I agree the CI position should absolutley be covered 6C. USCS CI's seize more drugs and money than almost any other agency not to mention all the other things they do. Don't forge the hazardous conditions CI work in like sitting in 100+ weather, sucking up car fumes, contact with people from third world contries carrying who knows what, sifting through poop [lol] and the list goes on. Although I left USCS my heart is still with you guys. Keep up the good work! Hopefully I will make it back to USCS as a SA soon. BE SAFE. FEDORBUST [1811].
