I was in the Army as a 96U UAV pilot I had a secret clearance and was waiting on a T.S I was 2 weeks away from graduation from my MOS school. I was top 2 or 3 in the class. I was then told I didnt recieve my T.S because of my credit (which is now fixed)

I then was going to have to switch mos's and change duty stations, I was very upset since I had planned on staying in AZ and being an instructer. I then failed 2 pt tests in a row and just didnt want to be there my 1st SGT gave me a choice pass the next one or recieve a ARCTICLE 15 I failed the next one and he called me in and told me that since it was obvious I didnt want to be there he wouldnt hurt my file and I started the process to discharge. The CO then called me in and I told him I was frustrated and didnt want to change my MOS, he then asked me if I want to leave the Army and i said yes.

Here is my discharge info can you please tell me how this would effect me going into LE. The only reason i didnt want to change is since I was in a very high sought after MOS which is the only reason I went in the Army. I had no desire to be in the infantry or a cook or truck driver. ( which i was told where my 3 options) no offense to anyone in the ARMY. I was upset since my recruiter told me my I was fine for my T.S and they didnt find out it was denied till 2 weeks before graduation.

In all honesty I think anything out of the ordinary on a DD214 (ordinary meaning you go in and serve your time and get out with an honorable discharge because you didn't want to re-enlist) will raise some flags. Your situation may mean something for one department and nothing at all for another.

The bottom line is you need to go out and try and get whatever it is you want. If you want to be a cop, then go apply and see what happens. No matter what anybody on this board tells you only you will know for sure how deep of a hole you're in, if it all. And you'll know that by how well you're received as a candidate at the departments you apply to.

I don't mind responding to these kinds of questions, but there's nothing stopping you from applying, so do it! Nobody here can tell you anything definitive, unless of course you're asking about how a specific department may view your situation AND we have somebody from that department on our boards. Not likely, however. Best of luck to you.

If you considered trying to come back into any branch of service the RE Code of 3 is a tough one for a recruiter. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I dont know a recruiter for the Army where I work that will touch it. It is waiverable though. Im no expert on the hiring for LE organizations but Im sure it will definitely raise flags. I agree with K9 apply anyway and see what happens. In the meantime you need to try and redeem yourself.

I was in the Army for 10 years on active duty and all because I decided I wanted to pursue a career in LE and the Army wanted to send me to Korea and I turned it down, I ended up with an RE code of 3. It is waivable if and only if the seperation codes, in your case JHJ will allow it. Any recruiter will have a book that will tell you whether or not you would be able to get back in.

It will affect your getting a job in LE. When asked about mine I provided an expalination and then documentation as to why I ended up with an RE of 3. With the information I had on it the red flag came down just as quickly as it went up. Take your DD-214 to the local recruiter and asked him to look up the Seperation codes for you and write down what they mean to your situation. If the recruiter refuses to do this for you , let me know via PM. I went to Basic with the local recruiter and I can get the information for you so that You can go into any interview with a clear and informed explaination of it.

Good luck,

Matt,

Just so happens I have my AR 601-210 which is the Army recruiting enlistment regulation.

RE 3: Applies to person not fully qualified for reentry or continuous service at time of seperation, but disqualification is waivable. Para 3-22 page 20.

If you feel this is incorrect you may appeal it by sending a brief narrative and a copy of your DD214 and evidence to support the claim to the Commander, PERSCOM, EPMD, ATTN:TAPC-EPR-P, 2461 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria, VA. 22331-0457

Also checked seperation codes and yours have changed. When did you seperate from the Army? The codes I have were effective 31 May 99.

Hope all this helps. Best of Luck.

I looked up all the codes and couldnt find anything for JHJ but I did look up chap 13 discharge and it is much better than ch 14 and 15. I am looking for a LE job so I think I still have a chance.

thanks
