View Full Version : Happy Birthday Marines!
Just wanted to wish all you jar-heads a happy 226th birthday.
Yes, I realize that it's not November 10th yet and that my greeting is premature, however, I am leaving tomorrow morning for my annual 8th & I reunion with my buddies in DC, so I won't be on the board this weekend.
Also, given that our birthday is in such close proximity to Veteran's Day, I think it's a good time to reflect upon the sacrifices made by our brother Marines who went before us (many of whom are not here because of that sacrifice).

We should all start thinking a couple of days early and keep it going!! There are alot of fellow Marines deployed and ready to do whatever may be asked of them. SEMPER FI
Here is the Commandants birthday message;
AS WE COMMEMORATE THE 226TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING
OF OUR CORPS, MARINES EVERYWHERE CAN TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR
CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR GREAT NATION. WE ARE A CORPS BORN OF AN
ACT OF CONGRESS, CONSECRATED IN SACRIFICE, STEEPED IN TRADITION,
AND TESTED IN BATTLE. OUR EARNED LEGACY IS FILLED WITH THE NAMES
OF MANY GREAT MARINES: LEJEUNE, VANDERGRIFT, PULLER...BUTLER,
BESTWICK, DALY -- WHO FILL THE ANNALS OF OUR LINEAGE WITH THEIR
INSPIRED ACTS OF VISION AND GALLANTRY.
2. HEROIC ACTIONS ON THE BATTLEFIELD ARE A HALLMARK OF OUR LEGACY.
EQUALLY COMPELLING ARE THE COUNTLESS HEROIC DEEDS OF MANY
OTHER MARINES WHO EXEMPLIFY THE VIRTUE OF PLACING THE NEEDS OF
OTHERS ABOVE THEIR OWN. WHETHER IT BE A MARINE SAVING AN OKINAWAN
CHILD FROM DROWNING, OR PULLING PEOPLE FROM A BURNING WRECK, OR A
FAMILY EXTENDING ITSELF TO PROVIDE A SAFE, NURTURING HOME FOR
DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN, OUR LIVES ARE INDEED FULL OF HEROISM. TODAY
WE CELEBRATE THESE DEEDS, NOT AS EXPLOITS, BUT AS CONTRIBUTIONS TO
THE GREATER GOOD -- CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE MARINES TAKE CARE OF NOT
JUST THEIR OWN, BUT REACH OUT TO CARE FOR OTHERS.
3. A LONE MARINE STANDING VIGIL ON A DARK NIGHT IN KOSOVO; A MARINE
RESERVIST WHO AS A FIREFIGHTER OR POLICE OFFICER FIRST RESPONDS TO
AN EMERGENCY IN HIS COMMUNITY; A CIVILIAN MARINE WHO WORKING
ALONGSIDE HIS COUNTERPARTS IN UNIFORM SHARES THE PERILS AND
REALITIES OF A TERRORIST ATTACK; AND A COMMITTED SPOUSE WHO FINDS
TIME TO SERVE AS AN ADVOCATE FOR FAMILY PROGRAMS IN ADDITION TO
MAKING A HOME AND SUPPORTING HER FAMILY -- THESE ARE AMONG THE
HEROES OF ALL GENERATIONS. WE ARE INDEBTED TO THEM FOR THEIR
EXAMPLE OF STRENGTH AND THEIR PRESENCE OF CHARACTER. THEY EMBRACE
OUR CORE VALUES AND EMBODY THEM TO THE FULLEST. THEY INSPIRE US TO
DO THE SAME. WE MUST RISE TO THE LEVEL OF THEIR EXAMPLE AS WE
CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF OUR CORPS AND ITS RICH HERITAGE. LET US
ALWAYS BE FAITHFUL, AS OUR MOTTO URGES, TO OUR GOD, OUR COUNTRY,
OUR CORPS AND TO OUR FAMILIES, BUT LET US ALSO RESOLVE TO BE ALWAYS
FAITHFUL TO THOSE MARINES WHO HAVE BESTOWED UPON US OUR PROUD LEGACY
OF SACRIFICE, COURAGE, AND SUCCESS.
4. TO ALL MARINES, PAST AND PRESENT, WHO UPHOLD THE FINEST
TRADITIONS OF OUR EAGLE, GLOBE, AND ANCHOR, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
5. SEMPER FIDELIS, J. L. JONES, GENERAL, U.S. MARINE CORPS,
COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS.//

OOHRAH! Man... this will be the first ball I haven't attended in 21 years... brings a lump to my throat. I have to work this weekend with no possibility of getting off. I am going to try to slide by 4th Recon's celebration (if I can find out where it is) during my chow break.
Happy 226th Marines.

Semper Fi & happy birthday!!
It is great to see such a showing of our brotherhood today! God bless all of you and your families for your service and sacrifices to our great nation.
I take alot of ribbing from my law enforcement friends about being a former Marine, but I hand it back in spades. I seem to remember sitting in a reception room at MEPS on ship out day when a Marine Lt. Col came in and asked for all USMC recruits to stand up and come into his office. Well, out of about 200 people, 15 of us stood up. He pointed out right there why the Marine Corps is called the Few, the Proud. He went on to say that people don't join the Corps for college $$ or benefits that other services have, they join to feel pride and demonstrate courage. Talk about a motivating send off.
Happy birthday brothers!!
Wish I could have made the Ball, but I too was working, though I did have a chance to see some Marine returning to Base;
Looking good in those Blues, but I too was in my blues...police blues that is.
Happy Birthday USMC
Not a day goes by that I dont miss the Corps!
