A friend asked me a question about his discharge and I thought I would pass the question on to anyone who might be better qualified to answer. My friend was in the military as a military police officer , he graduated basic , security police academy and was stationed at his duty base approx. 1 1/2 years and had to take his job progression test or whatever it's called to get to the next level for his field of work , we'll he failed the written test and was given a second chance , and failed a second time. His commander called him in , took him out of his police duties and put him on building maintence duties and said that if he failed again he would be taken out of the military police field all together and placed in a different career field. He told his CO that he had problems taking written test's , but did his job in the field as good if not better than anyone. Long story short , he failed a third time and was put on base cleanup indefinitely , and striped of his police duties. He became upset at what was going on and stated if he was going to be put in another career field , that he would just want to get out. From what he is telling me , the CO didn't like him from the get go. We'll he got discharged with an general discharge (failure to progress on the job). Since then , he had an appeal of his discharge before a panel of senior military officers , who looked at how he performed his police work in the field , for which he has recieved letters of achievement for , and they unanimously overturned his discharge from general to honorable service. So what he want's to know is , will this affect his chances of being hired by any police agency since he didn't serve his full term of enlistment , even though his dicharged was changed to honorable service. Any info. I can pass on apprediated.
