Ok let me get to the point. I took a hit of acid when I was 17. It was pretty bad, and my friend took me to the hospital. About 30min after I took it. The hospital gave me a syringe and made drink some black tar looking stuff. I don't if that would have helped. I've definitly not had a flashback since. Also I took a cycle of steroids two years ago. I was wondering if anyone knew how this would affect my chances in TEXAS PD's

Put plenty of time between yourself and the use. Make sure the time is put to postive use. It looks like it has been 6 years since the use, if you dont have a degree my advice is get one but not in Law Enforcment or Criminal Justice, get a degree in something that you can fall back on if LE doesnt end up being your career. To answer your question about being a DQ it is yes and no, soem places to "accept" acid use if it was once or twice and long ago. I have seen that in writing a few places. I havent done much lookign around TX as far as past use "acceptability" you'll have to find some places you would like to work and look for yourself. Some places have there past drug use standards on their websites, others on downloadable applications or background packets, others you wil jsut have to call and find out. One last point however is that jsut cause you fall within the guidelines does not mean the job is yours. If there are 3 jobs available and 20 applicants who have "less severe" or no drug use they woudl probably be placed ahead of you unless there are other apects that move you ahead on the list and push them back. All you can do is look, the deptpartments are out , there arent many however so they are harder to find. Good Luck

Oh yeah that black stuff was activated charcoal a substance given to OD and posion patients because the ingested substance in many cases binds to the substance.

I don't know anything in particular on Texas PDs, however the majority of LE agencies would DQ you for your acid use. The major difference with acid than with marijuana for instance is that you are potentially at risk for having flashbacks. Virtually all PDs don't want to assume that liability on their officers. An example of this could be that if you're in court for whatever reason as a cop, the defense could bring up your past acid use and basically you'd be screwed. Therefore, acid use is basically an auto DQs you (sorry but its the truth), and most agencies are getting more strict on their steriod use policy for applicants so either way you'd have an uphill battle getting a job in LE. Well with my experience on what I have heard and know, any mind drug like acid or ecstasy is an auto dq no matter what........ That is the way it is around where I live and I know it is going to be like that with every agency almost. Steroids is another auto dq from any LE jobs far as I know or at least it is around my area. Steroids is a bad drug to experiment with. I am an addicted weightlifter and when I was younger I had several chances to try that drug. Knowing that I wanted to get commited with LE later on in my life is the only thing that kept me away from that s***... But you do learn from your mistakes I guess. Unfortunately, this may be a mistake that could screw you for a good while. But you never know... I wish you good luck in everything you do.
