Any current or recently discharged military people that have access to the restricted forums, check out the post “DD 214’s” in the Q & A Forum and give me your opinion. Thanks.

DELC,

What are the requirements for restricted forums? Was wanting to read about the DD214 but cannot access.

Thanks

The requirements are listed in the 1st post in the Announcements Forum. The info about DD-214’s is that you may not want to file them with your local county courthouse because of ID theft.

Ohhhh! So sori! The one board I haven't visited yet. (I'M NEW)...Ok, Thanks Much!

Can you tell me how I am supposed to take a copy of a DD 214 to the exam with me when I still have 11 months until I retire!!??

I have several Honorable Discharge Certs. and reenlistment Certs but they quit giving 214's out until you actually get out/retire for good.

Will a statement of service suffice?

Thanks Agn DelC!//jb

JB2,

When I was in the process and they needed a DD-214 I asked my commander to write me a letter basically saying when I was getting out and stating the character of my service, ie honorable. The departments I had applications with had no problems accepting this. I was on terminal leave and only had a DD-214 worksheet and also gave them this and started the academy without having an actual copy of the DD-214.

Ask your commander to write you a short memo and send this to them. Also let them know that you won't get the DD-214 until you are out. They understand and will most likely work with you.

Good luck and thanks for your service.

JB2,

If you go to the personnel center they'll probably have no problem giving you a statement of service. I was able to use one to cover the DD214 requirement for an application process.

Have a great day!
