What types of interiors does everyone have in their PSAP? I know some have carpet but how do your chairs roll on that? How about spills? If you do have carpet how do you access the wiring under the floor boards?

My PSAP has tile floors which negate the worry about spills and chair movement across the room. Also easier to clean overall. Our walls are a cloth material which helps lessen the possible echo in our room.

Carpet. We also have those hard plastic floor mats under the chairs though.

we have tile floors, really easy to clean up spills, chairs roll great, but the look is terrible.

When I worked at a Detention Center, their "dispatch" or control room was carpeted, and the wiring and stuff was under the floor. The floor was actually elevated 2 feet off the ground so that there was access to it. Kinda like a shelf. I thought that worked very well, and the jail was a state of the art 70 million dollar facility so the design and stuff was supposed to be the best. Too bad the staff there wasn't or I would still be there.

KYEMT325 that is what we have now. Floor raised up with all wiring running under it. When I first started it was 4 metal desks with the 2 phones and a computer on it. DONT LAUGH :D Just went thru a complete rehab though and know we have the fancy chairs and terminals for each dispatcher. Looks EXTREMELY professional (to bad the works arent HAHA)

We have that heavy duty type of carpet with custom plastic floormats for each station. Our break room is attached which has tile. I like the carpeting myself and the carpet is a dark grey so I'm thinking it would cover most spills.

We have tiled carpeting over raised flooring which allows access to the wiring underneath. Really bad wear and tear or stained areas can be replaced easily (they are 18" squares), but they are a medium gray/blue pattern which hides most stuff. Even our adjacent kitchen is carpeted. We have chair mats at each position to help with rolling across the floor, but it's not a thickly padded carpet that's tough to roll on anyway.

We have tiled flooring. Open spaces and ALOT of
echo. We used to have a raised carpeted floor
when we were up on the 6th floor (which made sense to
someone) until we got blown off by a tornado.
Now it's just dirty tile that never looks clean.

Hey are you mocking me? (:clown: ) We are in a new center and so far no one has spilled anything yet. The carpet is a dark blu/gry that when the room is empty and you stare at it you get dizzy.....lol. We also have track lighting (not many people like the flourescent, so we have a choice of which one to use) so stains on the carpet are not as visible as it would in flourecent light. Did I make any sense to you?

:huh?:

I understand perfectly...especially the lighting situation. We also have track lighting that is directly over our consoles which are in a horshoe pattern. Each light is adjustable and there is a dimmer switch for different sections of the track lighting. We have large flourescent lighting also but if those are turned on they burn your retinas. I don't remember the last time those were on for more than 5 seconds. There is a collective groan in the room if they are accidentally turned on.

As far as spills, we have tile so it's a non-issue really.

I perfectly understand the flourescent lighting. I work graveyard shift so any type of light hurts my eyes anyway...lol....

Our room is horrible. Huge square tiles that we use a toilet plunger to lift if we need to get to the wires underneith. we have six carpeted squares on the wall that are supposed to cut noise but all they do is collect dust and keep the germs in the room. We only have one type of lighting and that is the way to bright you have to wear sunglasses to work lights. The room is also the center room, almost a hallway type area that has a always open door connected to the records room, a open window leading to the report writing room, another door leading to the briefing and emergancy coordinating room, plus a public window. The room is way to loud even if the radios are not going. I swear it has better acustics than the Syndney Opera House. But hey, if you want to get a tan while you work and are deaf, but don't want to feel like it come work with me.:D

Our center is on a concrete slab. The wires come up from the floor then run through our work station consoles. The overall feeling is gray, cold and dismal. We clean relentlessly but it never seems to improve anything. There isn't a break room of any kind, just a coffee pot and a microwave next to the wall. The only perk is that we have really good equipment.
