I just got back from a local dry cleaner, and they wanted $8 to clean ONE uniform!

You'd think they'd see the uniform and reliaze we're practically broke ;) :D

But seriously, is this the going rate?? If so I think I'll just bite the bullet and clean them myself and save the $8 for some snuff :)

Dry cleaners usually give a discount to LEO’s. Unless you are in a back-woods place like I am. Ask around to your co-workers.

My aunt owned/operated one of the two dry cleaners here in Wisconsin Rapids (20+ years). One of her best ideas was to "bid" for LE accounts. She nearly had a monoply on the local PD and SD for doing their uniforms, jackets, etc. The new owner (a friend of the family) is still doing this. I believe she charges $2.75 per shirt and $2.00 per pair of slacks. You have to remove all times from them, and if they are full of OC you need to tell her so she can be careful with them.

Also, most dry cleaners are still using Perc (perchloroethylene) as their cleaning fluid. The new cleaners are using some kind of liquid carbon dioxide that is much better/safer -- Perc is some nasty stuff... classified as a toxic waste when a business is done with it. You might want to check into this if you're concerned about mother earth. As far as I know, there isn't any price difference.

Just ran into a friend of mine, and former Academy instructor, and he told me of a local cleaner's that clean LEO's uniforms for $2/uniform($1 for shirt's & $1 for slacks). Which is more in my price range. :) After all, my last name isn't "Gates". ;)
