View Full Version : Glock 22 & 23 ? on duty ? and off duty? Is the 22 small enough for off duty?
I am going to buy either a glock 22 or 23, I like the 22 better but is it to big to carry off duty? What about in the summer time with shorts and a tee shirt? Can any one recomend some off duty holsters In the waist band type? Thanks
p.s is the 23 to small for a duty belt? I mean I know it will fit but will it look out of place? thanks

I think it will depend on your physical size whether or not you can conceal a G22. I have a G17 (exact same size as the G22), and given my size I would have a hard time concealing it (5' 9"/160), but I think I could if I really worked at it. Unless it was winter, I doubt I would carry it. But, seeing as I'm not an LEO yet and am in WI where CCW's don't exist, I've never actually tried it.
I am familiar with the G23, but haven't been around one in a while. As I understand from LEO friends (and others here), it is much more concealable than the full-size Glocks.
Just my $.02.

Two friends of mine at my old university carry the G23 on duty, and they do not look outta' place at all. Usually, unless you are really looking at the gun (which will make some LEO's a little nervous unless they know you) you can't tell the difference from a slight distance. Since I'm a "Glock-aholic" -- like most on this site -- I can tell the difference. But, it certainly doesn't look out of place. Now, if the fully uniformed officer were carrying a G27... then it'd be different.
I tried my G17 at home here with an old accumold paddle holster. I was able to conceal it with a seasonal jacket (I tried with my leather spring/fall jacket, and my Columbia ski jacket -- both waist length), but it would print or show any time I wasn't standing upright normally. So, it can be done.
I would still recommend a G23 for concealed carry. If I can futz with a G17 and get it concealed, a G19/23 would be much easier/simpler to conceal.
Again, just my opinion.
Good luck,
Steve
Since nobody is helping you out here I'll thow in my 2 cents:
I'm close to your size and weight. I have a G22 that I carry in a Bladetech IWB. It is not the most comfortable to carry all day but it can be done. It would not be my first choice for carrying concealed. The grip is big and it prints so I prefer a single stack for IWB. Of course guns and holsters are entirely subjective so what works for one person may not work for you...
Do a search or ask in the cop talk section of Glocktalk...

Good luck,
