Hi all
OK here's my problem...I'm in the academy so everything has to have a spit shine.
My boots, duty belt, o.c. case, magazine holder are looking really
good. My holster and my handcuff case I am having a real tough
time with.
The handcuff case seems to be just sucking all the polish in and never get's a real bright shine.
The holster is made by Safariland and looks to be a manmade material. I got it to shine but not a great spit shine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thnx ML

ML,

This may sound crazy but Im a believer. I was taught in the Army to use rubbing alcohol and water with kiwi polish. Get a real soft cotton cloth. I use a non-disposible cotton baby diaper. put about 50/50 water and alcohol in the lid. Dip it, put polish on it and go to town. If you dont already have a good base coat on your kit it may not work to well. If not keep putting the kiwi on and brushing it out and then try it. I use this method on my boots and they are like glass. Good luck!

My brother in "tab" gave good advice. You may also try using a cotton ball soaked with water and just a dab of kiwi to finish it off. I have also been known to put a coat of neutral color polish on after you get a good shine. It makes the shine look "deep" like a mirror.

Both of the above a re great suggestions, and I have used them and they both work wonders. I had a problem where after I got in a fight with a perp, my holster, mag case, and handcuff case were scuffed really bad. I tried the above mentioned and you could still see the scuffs really well. So I decided to cheat, I went to Walmart and got some scuff magic, it is in a bottle and you just paint it on. I spent several days working on getting the scuffs as smooth as possible and put this stuff on. After letting it dry I then shined it up with kiwi and elbow grease. I had to end up re-doing my whole kit as those three were shiner than the rest. Now once every two weeks I apply this to my kit and then shine it up like above and have been accused of spending all my off time spitshining. And my boots look great as well. Just be careful using to much, I believe that reason that it works is that is closes the pours in the leather. Not a problem until you start on you boots, with your boots you might want to strip them down every once in a while.

Hope this helps.

Well if your holster is made by safariiland then it is not real leather but a plastic made to look like leather. That is probably your problem with getting a shine on that.
