I am currently a co with the state of ohio and my wife is from pa and wanting to move home. PA has all of these residency requirements and I was wondering how hard it is to get a job with the department of corrections after you are a resident? What is the starting pay what do you top out at do shifts and good days go by seniority or do they rotate.Example do you have say t/w untill you have enough seniority to bid on something else.It would be nice to have a weekend off once evry couple of months without using vacation time. Also I was wondering about Allegheny county sherriffs do you have to be a resident ? Any info about pa corrections department or any other job in corrections in western pa would be helpfull.

Thanks,

sfb,

Unfortunalty I don't really have that much information to offer you. I can give you the state web site job announcement for this position. In my personal opinion the pay isn't that great.

You start out with about 23 thousand. Very low however over the years you can make decent money. I was with PADOC for over 10 years. When I left my base pay was just over 43 thousand I think. I was scheduled to be promoted to Sgt. just before I left which would have bumped my base pay to over 46 thousand. Everyone rotates days off. Everyone gets weekends off as your days off rotate. Depending on which jail you put in for, it can be fairly easy to fairly difficult to get hired. If you want to know which jails are easy to get into, e-mail me. Lastly, the benefits are the BEST around! Medical coverage etc is the best. They just recently got 2.5 percent towards retirement. I started there VERY young. I could have done 30 years and still retire young. I would have got at least 75 percent of my base pay if I would have stayed. ot bad. Even tough I only did 10 years, they still vested me with a pension. I now get a monthly check for the rest of my life plus I recieved a huge check(lump sum) when I left.

In reference to above. I meant to write not bad instead of ot bad(typo). There is always ot(overtime).
