Papi, I already sent my app. down last week (they weren't on the list for the fair ahead of time) and I stopped by to talk with them. They had a presence no doubt. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale before I moved to NY about two years ago. BSO definitely has it's sh*& together. The sheriff is really on the up and up and the officers like him (along with the community). Yeah, if my finance gets a job down there, I thought I should put together some options (like BSO). Maybe I'll be buying you a cold one on the beach...or along Broadway if we stay here (I aced the written for NYPD!)

Stay safe,
SecretNY

Please take my advice...

If things here are well with the department you are with...DONT CHANGE...

You just might be a little surprised how they treat YANKEES...

I was a Full time deputy two states over...and I made a whole lot of great friends that I will keep for a lifetime...BUT on the other hand... I wish I would have stayed in NY...with my own people...

it just seems to me....that the older southern officers (captains lt's) dont like yankees...

THEY WILL WATCH YOU LIKE A HAWK....

I was born and raised in NJ and now live and work in Dade Co FL. I have been in FL for 10 years living mostly in North Central FL. I have found WudupA's statement to be somewhat true there but not down here. It seems that every cop I run into down here, is a Yankee anyway. South FL reminds me more of NJ and NY than of the south.

I'M WITH GOVERNOR. I AM NO STRANGER TO FLORIDA--BEEN GOING DOWN THERE AT LEAST TWICE PER YEAR FOR THE PAST JUST ABOUT 20 YEARS. I FIND THAT NORTH FLORIDA, MONROE COUNTY (FLORIDA KEYS) AND SOME OTHER BACKWOODS AREAS ARE ANTI-YANKEE, BUT MOST OF SOUTH /EAST FLORIDA AND CENTRAL FLORIDA ARE YANKEE FRIENDLY. AND GOSH DARN, EVERY ONE I MEET DOWN THERE IS A FORMER YANKEE, WHO MOVED SOUTH.

Well I have to throw my 0.02 worth in. If you are a Republican and not big on Unions... Make the move. Not to get Politics involved in the conversation.... But my county is nearly all Republican as are the Deputies that work here. They ( honestly) like getting screwed. I ask them how they feel about certain things that would never fly w/ a unoin and they say they don't mind. Well, I come from a union and I do mind ! There are no Unions here. I have heard that this, that & the other dept. are Union..... You had better ask if they have collective barganing !!!!!! b/c the ones I know who claim to be PBA or FOP...... have no power !!! Their Idea of union is free legal with Dues.... They have no C/B. ANd w/o that, you have nothing. I had alot of friends back home in IL that said go for it....... Unions are not as big of a deal as you think they are. You won't be able to telll the difference B/T a Union dept and a Non union Dept...........OH HOW WRONG THEY WERE. You do what you want....Just like I said...my 0,02 worth. If you like the Sherrif literally running your Job and your PERSONAL life, than go for it. I will be looking to move back up North ASAP, however, if I did stay here, I would move 80 miles due East to Lauderdale. Good luck all, let me know if I can answer any questions.

really?? i have heard they dont have unions there. i take it that the sheriff depts down there are very political. sounds like the older officers down there in higher ranks try to hem up the newer yank officers..... what else have you heard???? i have always wanted to work in south florida.... am in the process but staying in DETROIT PD has crossed my mind a few times. thanks.

i sent a app to broward county to see what will happen and hopefully things will work out. i talked to a hollywood pd investigator today and i have a testing date set up for april 9th, 2002. i figure what the heck. i wanted to stay on the gulf in tampa area but maybe south florida will work for me. i know my next move will definitly be better than staying in the detroit pd.... but i still love it ;)

Wait till you get a feel of your new chief (Oliver)you will be on the first flight to FL. I was reading the local paper here in VA and it sounds like he already up to his tricks.

yeah tell me about it. i hear you. he was already talking 1 man cars in detroit. is he crazy??!? we just had a motorman 1 man car get killed last night. he thinks he is going to make some HUGE changes which wont happen. the union up here wont go for it. there was a lot of bs to deal with before but now its worse. i am sure its like that everyone. i guess he was talking about changing the precincts to "customer service zones" like he did in richmond va. that is pretty lame idea being the citizens HATE the police in detroit. he was also talking about a citizens academy, well they can hardly get any qualified applicats from detroit for the regular academy let alone a citizen academy. and always with the new mayor "we dont have enough city funds to give the department a pay raise" i wonder where all the millions are going that they rake in from the casinos. ok... i think i am done for now ;)
