Fellow readers,
One thing throughout my life that I thought was a HUGE plus for me was that I have NEVER even experimented with any drug that exists out on the street... NOT ONE.... Sure I have had chances but I never had taken the opportunity.. I really never had the desire to even see what drugs were like..

So my question is when it comes time for my BI and background and all that good junk and the question comes when they ask me what drug experience I have had, and I tell them my answer, will they trust that?? Some people tell me that they will instantly put me on a poly which doesn't bother me and some say they will trust the answer that I have gave to them.. So what is the real answer if you any of you know... The problem is that in a way I don't want them to trust my answer totally because I have a feeling that they think I may have a somewhat of a history in my past since experimenting with drugs, since it is so common amongst people these days. The last thing I want them to think is that this guy is hiding something from us and he doesn't want to tell. But I have known buddies of mine that went on polys and they say it was the worse time of their lives. Not that they were hiding anything but just the pressure of what is being conducted.. So what do you guys and gals think?? Would they trust my answer and go on with it or is that an automatic trip to the polygraph?? Thanks for any of the replies that I may get back...

The only thing that I can tell you is to tell the truth. If you have never used, experimented with drugs then tell them that. If they don't believe you then screw them. I have never used or experimented with any drugs either and every time I have had a LE interview I have been asked and I would tell them such, sure I got the looks and oh come on but the fact remained that I have never used drugs. I have worked for four different departments and it hasn't stopped me yet.

As someone else who has never used them, I say don't worry about it. I have not had my integrity challenged yet. They may be skeptical at first but after they do a background they will get their answer. I just took my second poly with an agency and that was the main focus. They didn't find anything wrong. Tell them the truth and don't worry about it.
Good luck.

This board is so helpful. I'm in the same position too and never really thought that somebody would be skeptical that I have never even tried drugs. It's nice to know that there are a few of us out there. Thanks for the great question.

...trying to get those knuckleheads to believe you. I never have either & have had a hell of a time getting those goofs to believe me. Yet when all is said & done, including the results from the poly & the drug screen, I KNOW I've won...because the test results proved that I was telling the truth.
Believe in yourself...and if they don't well then THE HELL WITH
THEM!

The drug question is just that...a question. And if you answer it truthfully, everything in that interview is just designed to get you to change your answer, which over 50% of applicants DO.

Don't take it as an insult to your honesty or integrity. This is just another investigative hurdle to get the job. Let's concentrate on the goal here, not on the mechanics of the process.

Good luck!

If some departments are not going to believe that you never tried any drugs whatsoever, then check this out. Not only have i never done any drugs, I never smoked a cigarette, and don't drink alcohol. I never got drunk or anything close to it. I wonder if anyone would believe that......
