Narrowed down to these two guns, anyone have some pros and cons for them, and which one would be the best for a duty weapon?

I am very biased on this issue. The Glock (IMHO) is the way to go here. It is by far the most popular and functional duty gun on the market. The HK is alot heaver and more $$$ to boot. I know a few guys that have these and a couple of them have had problems with the trigger system binding up. I have heard that the HK has problems with the mag realease. Glock has more than proven itself as a fine LE gun. I have more than 13,000 rounds thru my G 22 and I have never had a malfunction of any kind. Just my .02
I know the Maine State Police uses the H&K USP .40. As far as I know they are the only ones, but they seam to enjoy it. I would, personally, go with the G22. It is widely issued among police departments in my area and has shown time and again to be a reliable and effective sidearm. The real difference is going to be price. The next difference is going to be function. Of course, the Glock has no external safety and the DAO configuration makes it a consistant firing weapon.

I carry the H&K USP 40 and only problem I have had is the ammo I shot, other then that the gun has functioned perfect, mag's release with no problem, the gun itself is light, I belive with loaded mag its only 113oz's (don't hold me to that I would have to get my owners manual out and look.) Other then the ammo I have had no other problems.

I am waiting for my HK USP compact now. You'll find that the USP is better suited for "hot loads" than the Glock is (INS/BP version anyway, heavier slide). The Glock is very nice but you have more carry options with the HK, at least eight variations; single action, SA/DA, DAO, hammer drop or not, and on and on, etc. My wife has a Glock 27 that I wish I could carry as a back-up, very nice pistol. Shoot both if you can then decide. Good luck! Stay safe out there!
I'm a certified Glock guy, after switching from Sig some years back. I love the 22, 23, 27, 30...you name it. They make a sweet pistol. Why sweet? Because EVERY time you pull that trigger, you get what you want. EVERY TIME. I've seen the tests run at the Academy and I would NEVER have believe a pistol would fire after being submerged in mud and frozen for months. Picked it up, sighted and boom. No problems. Why would I care about carrying something with eight variations of readiness? No offense, but in my opinion, that's 7 things too many to remember when the rubber meets the road.
To each his own. Stay safe!

DMClark,
HK has several varions for different uses, as I said, if you want DAO like a Glock you can have it. HK just takes one pistol platform and tailors it to the customer's needs. Glocks are great pistols, I have owned the model 20 and loved it (couldn't afford to shoot those damn 10mm's regularly!)Now I carry a DAO Sig-Sauer P229 as a duty weapon, it does the things you like: same consistant trigger pull every time, no safety, no de-cocker to fumble with. The USP's can be configured the same way in either variant 7 or the new LEM configuration. Glock's weakness is hot ammo. +P+ and hot charge, light bullet weights are the bane of Glocks. Just ask the factory about running 155 or 135 grain .40's through it regularly or ask the INS what happened to the Glocks during it's evaluation. Good luck, stay safe.
If you want a gun with no manual safety get the Glock.
If you want a gun with a manual safety get the H&K.
I carried the H&K USP 40 for three years as a issued duty weapon. Management got the compact 40s. The grips are different and the magazines do NOT interchange. I have big
hands and the full size 40 cal fit me fine. The compact was to small for me.
We used 180 grain Golden Saber and had good luck.
Right now I am carrying a Glock 23. Its a bit small for my hands, but it shoots very well.
I dont know if there is a level three security holster for the H&K.
Most of them have a little hook which catches the trigger guard.
This wouldnt work on the H&K at the time.
When we switched to the H&K (this was the year after they came out on the market) We had to get a new, almost custom holster, from Don Hume Leather. It was a level 2 if I remember right.
Either will work well. Shoot both and pick what fits you.
Merry Christmas

they make a O70 SSIII holster for the H&K so you can hav a level III, plus they just came out with that new raptor level IV holster. pretty neat looking and still has the same draw as the 070.
