View Full Version : Fairfax County Sheriffs (VA)
Just wondering if anyone has any inside information about the Fairfax County Sheriffs Dept. The web site states they accept resumes from potential applicants. Do they give a test? I'd like to know what comes after that, i.e., the steps in the hiring process, where you are first assigned, type of duites, etc. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!!
I know nothing about the hiring process, except I think most are retired police officers from local police dept's. I do know they only work the courts, jail and serve papers. Fairfax County Police Dept does all the police work in the county.
I looked into it a few years ago. They receive pretty much the same training as the PD but what turned me off was 12 hour shifts. Sure some weeks they worked only four days, but 12 hour shifts in a jail is a long time. I'm a CO in a state prison and after 8 I'm ready to get out.
But otherwise it seems pretty cool. Not much overtime because of the 12 hour shift thing. And as the above poster mentioned everyone works the jail then later on maybe you can get bumped up to serving papers or court duty. None of it was appealing enough for me aside from getting POST certified in Virginia.
Thanks for the info. I took the County PD test almost a year ago but never heard anything since the test results letter, saying I passed. I figured maybe going this route would get my foot in the door with the PD. Im still hoping to find out what the process is as far as hiring goes. I'd like to move back to NY but I have to keep my options open and be willing to stay in this area if need be.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department is hiring, (Click Here) (http://www.mwaa.com/authority/police/index.htm)
I saw that the other night and downloaded the information. Actually, it seems alot of police agencies are hiring down here (DC area). It looks like I may end up staying here for that reason. Time will tell.

I have traveled to Fairfax, Virginia, to pick up a wanted subject in custody! I picked up the college professor at Fairfax PD that was wanted in Texas for aggravated sexual assault on a child. Does anybody remember this guy? He is an older man, 70's. He made bail and is back in Virginia! Keep an eye out for this guy!

I do know the Loudoun County Sheriffs Dept is hiring and they do perform police work. http://www.loudoun.gov/hr/docs/jobannouncement_/
I also believe that PW count PD is hiring as well.

Hi all, Actually I am just about complete with the Metropolitan Airports Authority. I have been through their whole process and it went by pretty quick (about 5 months).
I also went through Fairfax County about 1/4 way before getting DQ'd on Oral Review Board.
Hey Ranger Dude,
What was the process like for the Airports Authority? I just recently applied and recieved the card saying they received my application. What is the timelike like, etc? Any insight would be great! Thanks in advance! Pilk
