Well I start work tomorrow at 0530 at the SO. I was pumped and excited about going to work until I woke up this morning.... I woke up this morning to loss of appetite, along with a sense of "nervousness" about starting. I don't know if it's because I'm making the transition of going from a private citizen to a LEO or what. But this has only seems to get worse with every passing minute. I've talked to another fellow LEO and he was telling me this is perfectly normal feeling. I'm just wondering how everyone else reacted during their first day of work.

I will always remember my first day after on my own. I was so excited to me on my own...I was driving in MY police car thinking "Cool, I am the Police, it all me now...OH SHIT I am the Police...it IS all me now..no FTO to look to for help!"

My first call was a domestic, turned out to be two adults (in age only), they had each other's car keys and would not give them up!

My second call was a 10-45 (wreck). The wreck was fine, but after my back up left one of the passengers came back on NCIC with 2 warrants on file. I spent 5 minutes waiting for another unit while I kept asking them more questions about the wreck, trying to stall! I looked like the dumbest cop ever asking the same thing a hundred times!

Stay Safe.

Actually I was more excited than anything my first day on the job!=) The anxiety you are experiencing is quite normal when you are going into a "new" situation. Try to relax, soak up some info, and enjoy what you've earned.
Let us know how the first day went.

Nervous on your first day!!?? BAHHH!!!! Obviously you guys weren't hatched on the cop farm like the rest of us...

:)

No matter what anyone trys to tell you, we were ALL nervous on our first day... The real trick to being a good LEO is to act calm and like you know what you're doing at all times...

Remember, it's all about looking good!

(Disclaimer: Of course this is said as a joke, I would hate to see anyone take this literally and cool themselves into trouble or out of a job)

Stay safe and congrats!

MAN!! That first day SUCKED!! B-A-D!! Haha, after my shift, I was driving home thinking, "Screw this! I'm going to call in tomorrow and tell them, C-ya!"

But I have an EXCELLENT FTO, and just gave it that extra time to adjust and now everything is comming together and the fun is starting to happen. Well it was ;-) Now I'm get to start over with the first day gitter's, I get to work "Central Control" that operates 90% of the door's, gate's, sally port's, ect. So i'm not looking forward to that :-)

All well, it's all good, and I love this 3 on - 3 off shift!!!!
