The interview went great and the Sheriff gave me a conditional offer for a corrections position. Next week I go for the physical and pshychological. At least I got my foot in the door now.

Congrats on the conditional offer. How long do you have to work corrections before getting on the road, or is it strictly corrections?

It's separate, but the Sheriff said that people usually work there a few years before getting certified. I will probably pay my own way through so I don't have to wait as long. They are not big on spending the $$$ to send people to the academy. I'm just happy for now to get my foot in the door. They also are all for anyone who wants to get certified on their own and move on to the road, so I won't be stuck there. Although I think I can learn a lot in my time in the jail.

D2B,
Yes, you will learn alot in the jail. You will see alot of the regulars who come in and out of the jail and don't miss a meal. You will learn how to deal with these people and in my opinion it will help prepare you for when you get on the streets. Good luck to you and congrats on the conditional offer.
