Sometimes change is just bound to happen. The city I work for has just hired their first female police officer! Though I knew it happened, it appeared in this mornings newspaper. Not front page news, but rather large type heading for the article. I'm sure that she's going to probably have a little bit of a rough time getting into the swing of things and surely be challenged out on the streets. I'll be there to support her and help with her development and transition into the profession, as I'm sure some of the other officers will also.

Have a great day!

It's great that your department hired it's first female officer, but the newspaper just put some undue pressure on her right out of the gate.

Not taking anything away from the person that got the job, I think those who made the decision to hire were easy to hire someone already certified than to spend the money to train someone. There weren't that many who applied and the candidate who was most likely to be hired, changed his mind and opted to stay with the department he was with. There have been 6 officers leave this department since April of this year and a good chance others will go in the near future! This situation isn't something unique to our department, but somewhat normal for a small municipality. The results of city council meetings are routinely published in the local print media. The degree of attention is relative to the professionalism of the publication and the amount of newsworthy items at the time of deadline.

Have a great day!

RoscoeRuhl,

Just curious, are the officers leaving your department for Federal Law Enforcement, larger departments, or other careers?
